Horse- and Cattle-stealing.
Ngaruawahia. —Rewi Tahuna, farmer, reports stolen from Mr. Hunt’s paddock, about the Ist instant, a bay hack gelding, aged, no brands, white streak down forehead to nose, four white feet, one of fere hoofs cracked, a piece broken off one hind hoof at the heel; value, £ls. Identify able. Suspicion attached to a Maori who was Been riding the horse away. No description can be given of him.
(See Police Gazette, 1901, page 214.) Cambridge. —The horse supposed stolen from Onehi ha? been found.
Taradale. —Robert West, farmer, reports stolen, on the 31st ultimo, a strong stiff-built trap roan gelding, aged, about 14 hands 2 inches high, branded N.E. on off shoulder ; value, £lO. Identifiable. A mob of horses driven by George Lynd passed through Greenmeadows for Auckland on the 3rd instant, and the missing horse may have been taken with them.
Lumsden. —James Smith, sheep-farmer, reports stolen, about the Ist June last, about one hundred and forty merino ewes, aged, square tar brand on left side near the back, various ear-marks; value, £63. Identifiable.
Winton. —Christopher Mcßae, farmer, Hokonui, reports stolen from a paddock, between the 29th August and 2nd instant, eighty-nine hoggets, wethers, ear-marked with two back notches in off ear and one fore notch in near ear, reversed in ewes, S.A.in red (but now blotched) on back ; value, £53 Bs. Identifiable.
