Stealing Otherwise than from the Person or from Dwellings.

Parnell (Auckland). — Adam Brock Craig is charged on warrant with the theft, between the 4th and 11th April, 1901, of £2, and various other sums amounting to £3O, the moneys of Jane Hannah Harris, London Dairy Company. Offender is a colonial, about thirty years of age, 5 ft. 10in. high, dark hair and complexion, slight build, dark moustache, walks very erect; dresses in dark sac suit and black hard hat. He was in charge of the Porirua branch of the London Dairy Company, and failed to account for the above moneys received. Supposed gone to Sydney on the 16th ultimo. Parnell (Auckland). —Theft of winkers, the property of Henry McVeigh : The suspect, William Smith, has been arrested for this offence by Constable Hutchison, Parnell police, and sentenced to two months’ hard labour. (See Police Gazette, 1901, page 63.) Eden Terrace (Auckland). —E. Porter and Co. also report stolen from their shop, between the 2nd and 4th March last, an electro-plated chased oval biscuit-jar; value, £2 10s. Identifiable. (See Police Gazette, 1901, page 73.) Te Whaiti. —Pateriki Mirimana, suspected of stealing Patrick Keaney’s saddle, has been arrested by Constable J. B. Young, Marton police, and remanded.

Gisborne. —Mansen Hannah reports stolen from his shop, on the 27th ultimo, a new white Chinese-silk shawl, embroidered in centre, white - silk fringe all round ; value, £3 10s. Identification doubtful.

Inglewood. —Harold Ivey, farmer, Frankley Road, New Plymouth, reports stolen from his trap in Julian’s stable, on the 12th or 13th ultimo, a double-barrel breech-loadiDg gun, top-action, two pheasants engraved on plate at the Side; maker, “Ansion,” Belgium : value, £5. Identifiable.

Wanganui. —Thomas Fitzgerald reports also stolen at Carterton, on the 3rd or 4th ultimo, a camera ; value, £2 10s. Suspicion attached to Munday, a Maori, about eighteen years of age, about 5 ft. 5 in. high, well built, good-looking. He joined the circus at Timaru, left at Napier, and is now supposed to be with his people near Masterton.

Palmerston North. —On the 27th March last a registered letter addressed to R. Lyon, Terrace End, containing a cheque for £lO, was lost by the postman. On the 26th ultimo the cheque was tendered to L. Simmonds, draper, in payment of goods, by a man, name unknown, who, when Mr. Simmonds rang up the bank, oleared away, leaving a nearly new light-check overcoat with detachable cape behind him. Description: About twenty-three years of age, thin build, about 5 ft. 10 in. high, dark hair and complexion, supposed clean-shaved; dressed in dark-tweed suit, darkbrown Dr. Jim hat, soft shirt with turned down collar and brown tie. Said his home was in Wellington, and that he had been bushfelling at Waituna. No warrant.

Greytown North. —On the Bth or 9th February last there was stolen from the Woodside railway flag-station the following articles, the property of the Wellington Woollen Company : six sac suits, a cycling suit, a covert coat, two pairs trousers, a Gordon and three Norfolk suits, three military suits, a sailor suit, white vest, a reefer jacket, six Crimean shirts with collars, two pairs flannel and one pair plaided drawers, a plaid under-shirt, six flannel under-shirts, three golf-caps, four knickers, three rugs, twelve pairs black ribbed and one half hose, a cycling hose, a sweater, two divided skirts, a jersey, a worsted and a lambswool undershirt, and four pairs of lambswool pants ; total value, £33 7s. The above goods were in two hampers, consigned to Mr. Anderson, the company’s representative, and were in the waiting-room of the station. A number of Volunteers passed through by train during the night. The hampers were broken open and some of the contents were found about the station.

Lower Hutt. —Arthur Gadsby, butcher, reports stolen from off his horse in a section near the Family Hotel, on the 24th ultimo, a fawn-coloured rug, 7 ft. by 5 ft., check pattern, with red, white, blue, and grey stripes, about 6 in. square; back of rug brown colour-, check pattern, with narrow red, blue, and yellow stripes, about 15 in. square, “ Petone Woollen Mill ” woven on a piece of black material sewn on one oorner : value, £2 2s.

Wellington. —The Hon. J. G. Ward reports supposed stolen from his residence, Tinakori Road, on the 30th ultimo, an Esquimaux bitch, cream colour, sharp fox-like head, bushy tail, long hair on neck and back of hind legs; value, £lO. Wellington South. Thomas Smith, baker, reports stolen from off his horse, on the 2nd ultimo, a nearly new white canvas horse-cover, white-felt lining, black-leather breast-straps, canvas and brown - leather girths ; supposed and T. S. stamped on inside: value, 18s. (See Police Gazette, 1901, page 106.) Wellington. —Frederick Betche, charged with theft of Arthur B. Pownall’s bicycle, is said to have gone by the s.s. “ Gulf of Taranto,” on the 6th ultimo, to South Africa.

Wellington. John Kelly and William Herbert Williams, telegraphists, report stolen from the cloak-room of the telegraph-office between 7 p.m., 12th, and 1 a.m., 13th ultimo, a nearly new dark-drab heavy covert coat, J. Kelly in ink on the tab; value, £3 10s. A blue waterproof overcoat, no sleeves, a tear at top of slit at the back, repaired with material of a darker colour ; the property of William Herbert Williams: value, £2. Both ooats identifiable.

Wellington. —Robert Dohen, chief cook, s.s. “Taviuni,” reports stolen from his cabin, on the 23rd ultimo, a silver watch, No. 10527, maker “Haughton,” London. R. Dohen engraved inside, and R. D. on outside of case; a long link double silver chain attached ; value, £6 12s. (See Police Gazette, 1900, pages 186 and 193.) Wellington.— Joseph Marsh, charged with theft from the Wellington Fresh Food and Ice Company, has been arrested by Detective Thomas Livingstone, Christchurch police, and remanded to Wellington.

Clyde Quay (Wellington). Joseph Kenny, grocer’s assistant, reports stolen from Mr. Raines’s store, on the 11th or 12th ultimo, a blue pilot-cloth overcoat, with cape and sleeves, lined with dark tartan, a small hole at the back of neck, and a small tear on the right side, at the bottom ; value, £2 10s.

Clyde Quay (Wellington). Charles Physick reports stolen, on the 26th February last, a rough-coated Irish terrier, about six months old ; value, £5. Suspicion attached to Charles Crawford , a native of England, expressman, about thirty-five years of age, about 5 ft. 6 in. high, fair hair and complexion, brown moustache only. The dog was said to have followed him from the Princess Theatre Hotel, Tory Street.

Christchurch. Edward Jackson, clerk, reports stolen from a yard off the Papanui Road, on the 20th ultimo, a gentlemen’s Zealandia bicycle, painted green, 24 in. frame, No. 1298, “W. W. Baxter” stamped on handle-bar; value, £lO.

Papanui. —William Barnes Rollinson reports stolen from Matson’s Road, on the 17th ultimo, a Star bicycle, No. 10084, Westwood rims, Dunlop tires, 838 saddle,22in. black frame; value, £ls.

Oxford. —Charles Frederick Nankeville, insurance agent, reports stolen from his shed, between the 7th and 12th ultimo, a double-rein bridle with steel bit, plated, with large round rings, square nickel buckles, plain forehead-band, no throat-strap; an English exercise saddle, top chafed through carrying parcels, small knee-pads, leather tube girths with buckles attached that run through a ring, plain nickel stirrups : value, £4.

Ashburton. —Mary Mills reports stolen from the yard of the Royal Hotel, on the 13th ultimo, a rug, fawn-colour on one side and a fawn plaid-pattern on the other; value, £l. Identifiable.

Timaru. —William J. Young, news-agent, reports stolen from the entrance to racecourse, on the 18th ultimo, a gentlemen’s Globe bicycle, No. 16776, new cover on back wheel; value, £lO.

Dunedin. —James Fearon, labourer, reports stolen from his vest, which was hanging in the Pelichet Bay Railwaystation, on the 23rd ultimo, a white-metal open-faced keyless watch, “Alert” on dial, number unknown; a silver chain, a long and three short link pattern attached: value, £2. Dunedin. —Arthur Thomas Finch’s bicycle has been recovered at Shiel’s pawn-office, where it was pledged by a man who gave the name of Edward Brooks. Description : About twenty-three years of age, 5 ft. 9 in. high, fair complexion, small fair moustache ; dressed in light suit and soft brownfelt hat. Supposed identifiable.

Mosgiel. —David Sutherland, farmer, reports stolen from his shed, on the 22nd or 23rd ultimo, a Mosgiel buggy-rug, oilskin lining with ring in centre, leather worn away, and sewn with twine ; value, £2 10s. Identifiable.

Naseby. —George Ledingham, farmer, reports supposed stolen from of! his horse at Kyeburn Pass, on the 20th ultimo, a nearly new colonial-made saddle, with squat, quilt seat, “Hodge and Jones” on mountings, large three-bar nickel stirrup-irons; a head-stall bridle, brass buckles, reins broken and sewn in two places ; a light-grey overcoat, the left-hand pocket is torn at edge: total value, £lO. Suspicion attached to Thomas Healey, a farmer, fifty-three years of age, 5 ft. 9 in. high, swarthy complexion, hair and whiskers turning grey.
