Auckland.— McMaster and Shalders report stolon from their shop, Queen Street, on the 27th ultimo, a new navyblue serge mackintosh, about 56in. long; has large-oheck lining of navy-blue, brown, and white : value, £2.

Avondale. —Thomas Rose, carpenter, reports stolen from bis clothes-line, on the 2nd instant, three white-twill sheets, two tableoloths, four towels, a white and four blue shirts, a nightdress, three chemises, and three children’s pinkflannelette nightshirts ; value, £3 13s. 6d.

Napier. —Patrick Hall, coachbuilder, reports stolen from his clothes-line, on the 4th instant, two white single blankets; value, £1 2s. Suspicion attached to Charles Ellis, who was seen hanging around. Description: An American, a labourer, forty-eight years of age, 5 ft. 5 in. high, medium build, fresh complexion, dark-brown hair, blue eyes, fair moustache only, speaks well and is very talkative, fond of drink; dressed in brown sac coat, blue-dungaree trousers, and soft-felt hat. Gone to Wairoa, per s.s. “ Tangaroa,” on sth instant, under the name of MoFarlane.

Pahiatua. —Thronton Walker, farmer, reports stolen from his clothes-iine, on the 9th or 10th instant, a white-calico nightshirt, marked “ T. Walker,” and a quantity of family underclothing; value, £4.

Eketahuna. —Arthur Janderchewsky, Fitzgerald’s Circus, reports stolen, on the 4th or sth instant, a nearly new violin ; value, £lO. Complainant put the violin in the case at Masterton and placed it with all the other circus belongings, and on arrival at Eketahuna he found it had been taken out and a worthless one substituted.

Eketahuna. —Thomas Fitzgerald, circus proprietor, reports stolen at Featherston, Masterton, or intervening stations, between the Ist and sth instant, a large brown-opossum rug, lined with brown and bound with blue-braid, small tear in fur near corner, value £2l; also a large brown-leather portmanteau, has one handle and strap, T. F. F. on top—containing six white shirts, long fronts, size 18 in.; two white shirts, with deep turned-down collars ; a black-and-white check, a pink-and-mauve striped, and a large-check shirt; five shirts, colours unknown ; a sweater; a check flannelette and coloured cotton pyjamas; a pair of men’s boots, with very narrow-pointed toes, size 7 ; a new very deep waistbelt ; white under-pants, socks, handkerchiefs, and a number of stand-up and turned-down collars, size 17£ ; a bull’seye kodak, No. 2 ; and a quantity of circus check-tickets and papers: total value, £3B. Suspicion attached to two men who came from Wellington. First: About twenty years of age, about 5 ft. 7 in. high, pale dirty complexion, straw hat, wearing short cloth overcoat; gave the name of Stapleton. Second: About twenty-five years of age, sft. 7in. high, and dressed in dark olothes.

Masterton. —J. Hogan, charged with theft of Thomas William Miller’s saddle, has been arrested by Constable D. Brosnahan, Woodville police, and sentenced to three months’ imprisonment. His correct name is Thomas Irwin (see Police Gazette, 1900, pages 198 and 224), and when arrested gave the name of Joseph Kerr.

Wellington. —Arthur Tovey, check-clerk, reports stolen from off his bicycle at the Telegraph-office, on the 2nd instant, a King of the Road lamp, a Barnes tool-bag (three straps on it), containing a pump for Morgan and Wright’s tires, a Barnes screw-wrenoh, a nickel and a plain spanner; value, £1 10s. Identifiable.

Wellington. — Frederick Betche is charged on warrant with the theft on the 30th March, 1901, of a bioycle, the property of Arthur B. Pownall (recovered); value, £lO. Offender is a native of New Zealand, about twenty-three

years of age, about 6 ft. high, slight build, dark hair and complexion, very slight dark moustache only, thin features ; dressed in dark sac suit, and dark cap. He obtained the bicycle on the hire system and sold it for £3 to Robert Taylor, a second-hand dealer, on the 30th ultimo.

Wellington. —William Mercer, carpenter, reports stolen from Mercer and Elvey’s fish-shop, Cuba Street, about the 15th March last, a new jack-plane, a claw-hammer, and a screwdriver, marked “ W.M.” ; value, lls. 3d. (See Police Gazette, 1901, page 85.) Wellington.— George Benjamin Nicholl, oharged with theft of A. B. Pownall’s bicycle, has been arrested by Detectives P. Herbert and J. Mcllveney, Auckland police.

Mount Cook (Wellington). —Robert Archibald Hearn, ooach proprietor, reports stolen in Garrard Street, on the 6th instant, a nearly new woollen rug, 7 ft. square, buff ground, tartan pattern, and a carriage-lamp with several dents in it; value, £1 7s 6d. Identifiable.

Picton. —Joseph William Jaoobs reports stolen from the chaff-house of the Terminus Hotel, on the 9th instant, a nearly new brown-leather military bridle, nickel snaffle-bit and buckles, double reins, no throat-strap ; value, £1 ss. Identifiable. Suspicion attached to Alfred Larsen. Description : A native of Norway, a labourer, twenty-seven years of age, 5 ft. 8 in. high, fair complexion, light-brown hair, light-blue eyes. Christchurch. Ernest Shepherd, office-boy, reports stolen from Tuam street, on the sth instant, a gentlemen’s Austin bioycle, No. 154, black enamelled, 24in. frame, black saddle, square handle-bars ; value, £lO. Identifiable.

Christchurch. —Henry Smith, second-hand dealer, reports stolen from his shop, on the 2nd instant, a large size nearly new Beaufort coat; value, £l. Identifiable.

Christchurch. —Frederick Bonella, grocer, reports stolen from the enclosure in front of the Free Public Library, on the 21st ultimo, a gentlemen’s blaok enamelled Star bicycle, drooped handle-bars, cork grips, Brooks saddle, 24in. frame, 84 gear; a small nickel lamp attached: value, £l4. Identifiable.

Christchurch.—C. H. Black, insurance agent, reports stolen, supposed from his office in High Street, about the Ist March last, a fawn-coloured oovert coat with chain tab ; value, £4 10s. Identifiable.

Christchurch. —Best and Towne, importers, Lichfield Street, report supposed stolen, on the 9th ultimo, a gentlemen’s Zealandia bicycle, 24 in. frame, black enamel partly rubbed off, Dunlop tires, Brooks saddle, No. 13 stamped on near side of pillar-lug, rat-trap pedals, block chain; value, £9. A man who gave the name of T. Crook hired the bicycle for the day, but has failed to return it. He is about thirty-five years of age, rather tall, medium build, dark complexion, small brown moustache; dressed in darkbrown sao suit. Identifiable.

Woolston. —Between the 29th March and the Ist instant there was stolen from the office in Bowron Brothers’ tannery, a black cash-box, about 8 in. by 10 in., containing nine sovereigns, about 16s. Id., and receipts. The money was the property of the tannery picnic committee.

Rakaia. — Henry Francis Hargreaves (name probably fictitious) is charged on warrant with the theft, on the 15th or 16th instant, of a suit of clothes, the property of Edward Hampton (recovered); value, £4 ss. Offender is supposed colonial, about twenty-eight years of age, about 5 ft. 7 in. or Bin. high, medium build, fair complexion, lightbrown hair, clean-shaved except fair moustache, has two or three middle fingers missing from right hand ; dressed in dark-tweed sac suit, and light soft-felt hat; is fond of drink, and was carrying a swag in a sack. Supposed gone to Christchurch. He sold the clothes for 155., and left by train for Addington on the 17th instant.

Methven. —Lewis Wood rep >rts stolen from the Mount Harden Sheep-station, on the 30th or 31st ultimo, a set of spring-cart harness, collar lined with leather and very hard, brass-mounted saddle wish blue lining, brass - mounted winkers, bit-strap broken and tied with string, iron hamcs ; traces have been repaired, a few links at the end : value, £4. Identifiable.

Middlemarch . Ruth Elizabeth Naylor, Mount Ross, reports stolen from a hat-box at the Sutton Railway-siding, on the Ist instant, a gold brooch, heart on one side, bird on the other, connected with a gold chain of twenty-four links ; and a silver brooch with gold flowers : value, £2 10s. Suspicion attaches to a man, name unknown, who was seen by Mr. Mathieson with the contents of the box around him at the siding. Description : About fifty-four years of age, about 5 ft. 7 in. high, medium build, grey beard, bloodshot eyes, very round shoulders; dressed in dark coat and vest, and light trousers ; easily excited. Identifiable by Mr. Mathieson.

Dunedin. — William Henderson is charged on warrant with the theft, on or about the 14th January last, of £3 Bs., money of George Lyon Denniston, merchant, Bond Street, Dunedin. Description : A native of New Zealand, about twenty-four years of age, about 5 ft. 7 in. high, black hair, sallow complexion, clean shaved, long pointed nose, usually dressed in dark suit and brown alpine or straw hat. Was last seen in Dunedin on the 29th ultimo, and is supposed to have left by the s.s. “ Te Anau ” for North, and will probably attempt to leave tbe colony. Offender was traveller for complainant, and collected the above amount from Thomas Silk, Metropole Hotel, St. Glair, and failed to account for it. Other charges pending.
