Auckland. —John Welborn, porter, reports stolen from his bedroom, in the Central Hotel, on the Bth instant, a gentlemen’s silver hunting-watoh, No. 158555 ; value, £4.
Auckland. —John P. Lawson, gentleman, reports stolen from the lavatory of the Star Hotel, on the 12th or 13th instant, a gentlemen’s 18-carat gold ring set with a very whitecoloured diamond, about 2 carats, in claw setting, 18 carat and A.K. stamped inside ; value, £BO. Identifiable.
Devonport. —W. J. Napier, M.H.R., reports stolen from his dwelling at Takapuna, between the Ist December, 1900, and 11th instant, a bronze lamp with two bronze handles, two white-enamelled jugs and basins; two kapoc pillows, red-and-fawn coloured ticking; a kapoc bolster, blue-and-fawn ticking covering; and an axe: value, £1 ss.
Cambridge. —Gertrude Hunt reports stolen from her bedroom, in the National Hotel, on the sth or 6th ultimo, a silver star-shaped moonstone brooch, about 1 in. in diameter, smaller stones round the rim ; a gold horse-shoe pin, set with pearls and corals alternately : value, £3. Identifiable.
Te Aroha. —Francis Pilling reports stolen from the Grand Hotel, between the 4th ultimo and 13th instant, an 18-carat gold chain, being half of a long heavy neck chain, bar at end, the property of Miss Maude Houlihan ; a silver thimble, four white handkerchiefs, and sundries, the property of Miss Barraclough ; a drab chesterfield coat for a boy of thirteen, pearl buttons, pockets on breast on each side, the property of Mrs. H. Love, Auckland; a large-size drab chesterfield coat, and an old pair of kid driving-gloves, torn between the fingers of left hand: total value, £lO 18s. 9d.
Katikati. —William Cornes, miner, reports that between the 17th and 25th ultimo his dwelling was broken into, and the following stolen : Two half sovereigns, 10s. in silver, and a gold mourning scarf-pin, “ In memoriam ” engraved on is total value, £3. (See Police Gazette, 1901, page 84.) Hastings. —Andrew Jacob, charged with theft from Jackie Teepa, has been arrested by Constable H. Clarke, Gisborne police, and remanded.
Feilding. —Fitzgerald Brothers, circus-proprietors, report stolen from a sitting-room in the Manchester Hotel, on the 17th instant, a gentlemen’s new Red Bird bicyole, No. 5859, 22 in. frame, model 57, free wheel, wooden rims, Dunlop tires, handles reversed; value, £ls.
Palmerston North. —Thomas Quinn, labourer, Feilding, reports stolen from him, when drunk, in Palmerston North, on the 9th or 10th instant, a £lO note, a £5 note, numbers unknown, and a silver lever hunting-watch, No. 116691, maker Ehrhardt, a white-metal chain attached; value, £4 11s.
Patea. —R. Churchill, farmer, reports that between the 10th ultimo and 12th instant his hut was broken into, and the following stolen : A clarionet, “ Metzler and Co.” stamped on several parts of the instrument, value £5; an old silver English lever hunting-watch, capped and jewelled, makers and number unknown, a dent in case, value £2. Identifiable.

Wanganui. —Theft of cheque from Punga: It has now been ascertained that the cheque was not stolen by Tauri, and no further action is desired.

Otaki. —Ngahina Matu, suspected of breaking and entering the dwelling of John Thomas, has been arrested by Constable M. Redican, Wellington police, for this offence, and committed for trial.
Eketahuna. Lancelot T. Herbert, storeman, reports stolen from his bedroom, on the 6th instant, a hoop-pattern 18-carat gold dress ring, with three opals in olaw setting and four diamonds let into the ring, two on each side of centre opal; the opals are rather fine in colour, not cloudy : value, £5 ss.
Featherston. —On the 12th or 13th instant the post-office at the Government Rail way-station was broken into, and a number of letters, post-cards, and three book-parcels stolen. Amongst them was a letter containing a cheque No. 2120 for £3 Bs. 6d., drawn by C. E. Chitty, Treasury Department, Wellington, in favour of William Malone, an Imperial pen-
sioner. Some of the letters were afterwards found opened in William Adkin’s book stall on the railway platform, which had also been broken into, and the following stolen : Fifteen tins cut tobacco, a box of cigars, two boxes cigarettes, two bottles of gum, six wood pipes, ten books, six boxes of nibs, four boxes of paper, two packets of envelopes, four bottles ink, four packs of cards, and a crib, board ; value, £6 19s. 6d
Lower Hutt. —Hugh Cameron, farmer, reports stolen from his dwelling at Muritai, about the 23rd March last, a gentlemen’s broad band gold ring, rounded at the edges, with a large diamond in claw setting, stamped (W.L. & S. 18c.), 100 scratched inside ; value £SO. Identifiable.
Wellington. —William Sharplin Hayward, care Nodine and Co., reports stolen from him at the Theatre Royal, on the 9th instant, a brown-leather purse, outlined with green, containing a£s note and £2 10s. in gold. Purse only identifiable.
Wellington. —Mrs. C. Brownwell reports supposed stolen from her on the s.s. “ Zealandia ” at Wellington on the 28th ultimo, a black-leather purse with about four compartments, silver fastening, and silver plates at each corner, containing a sovereign, a half-sovereign, and about 10s. in silver; two old gold rings, one set with a stone, now missing, the other flat on top ; a bill-head with s.s. “ Wakanui ” on top and complainant’s name at bottom: total value, £1 18s.
Thorndon (Wellington). —John Edward Taylor, billiardmarker, Kaiwarra, reports stolen from his bedroom, on the Bth or 9th instant, two “ Lion ” sixpences, an American silver dollar, a Queen-Anne farthing, three Indian rupees, a one and a twenty Portugese reis, a penny, a twopennypiece, and a Kruger penny. Identifiable. Also seven or eight foreign coins, and 9s. in silver. Total value, £2 9s.
Manners Street (Wellington). —Martha Brockelbank reports stolen from her private hotel, 81, Upper Willis Street, on the 16th or 17th ultimo, a small japanned cashbox, containing £1 in silver, a gold-enamelled mourning-ring set with a few pearls and brilliants, a oase containing a pair of round gold earrings set with pearls (“ A. Mears, Strand, England,” on case); a small oval gold brooch, set with eighteen pearls, stone in centre ; a Jubilee-shilling brooch ; and a number of bills from Brown and Dean, solicitors : value, £5 10s. Suspicion attached to John Houghton, who was living at the hotel, and has since been committed for trial for forgery.
Manners Street (Wellington). —John Badden, storeman, reports stolen from his bedroom at Brill’s boardinghouse, Taranaki Street, on the 11th instant, a silver Waltham watch, No. 71483, “J. Badden ” engraved inside of case ; value, £5. Suspicion attached to a man, name unknown, who occupied the adjoining room. Description: About eighteen years of age, 5 ft. 7 in. or 8 in. high, medium build, fair hair and complexion; dressed in a dark-tweed suit, trousers well worn, dark-tweed cap, striped shirt, and tan boots; dirty appearance. Identifiable.
Clyde Quay (Wellington). —Charles Thompson reports stolen from the public bar of his hotel, on the 3rd or 4th instant, an electro-plated pint tankard, “ C. T.” stamped on outside; value, £l. Identifiable.
Clyde Quay (Wellington). —Alfred Ernest Moir reports stolen from him when drunk and asleep in Tory Street on the 4th instant, a silver Rotherham hunting watch, No. 106451, “J. Craig ” on dial and works ; a 9-carat gold neckstud : value £5 10s. Also stolen from William Frederick Moran, who was with Moir, five £1 notes, numbers and bank unknown.
Mount Cook (Wellington). —Henry Pearce, labourer, 45, Frederick Street, reports stolen from him, supposed near the Cricketers’ Arms Hotel, on the 23rd ultimo, a nearly new silver hunting three-quarter-plate keyless Geneva watch, number unknown ; a 15-carat gold ohain, loose curb pattern, with gold-mounted greenstone pendant, and a heartshaped locket with two letters (unknown) engraved thereon, attached : value, £lO. Identifiable.
Mount Cook (Wellington). —Patrick Dwyer reports stolen from his hotel, between the Ist and 6th instant, a plain oval slightly worn electro-plate egg-stand for six cups, two of them missing; also a new red-and-blue hearthrug, about sft. by 3ft., with yellow fringe on both ends: value, £1 18s. 6d.
The Port (Nelson). —Basil MoElwaine, labourer, reports stolen from his bedroom in the Customhouse Hotel, on the 31st ultimo or Ist instant, three £1 notes, one of them supposed No. 106701, on the Bank of New Zealand.
Greymouth. —Albert Pitchford, miner, Blackball, reports stolen from his bedroom on the Ist instant, a silver lever English watch, No. 15381, gold dial, “Wolverhampton” stamped on works; value, £4. Suspicion attached to John Nolan, who left suddenly without paying for his board. Description : Supposed colonial, about twenty-two years of age, about 5 ft. 7 in. high, medium build, rather dark complexion, dark hair, small dark moustache, dark eyes; dressed in dark-coloured suit with brown stripe. Identifiable.
Lyell. —Albert Pistolosi, labourer, Inangahua Junction, reports stolen from his hut, on the 14th instant, two £lO notes, numbers unknown, a blue-pencil check-mark on the back of one of them; a small pair of black opera-glasses; a small magnifying-glass with bone cover, to whioh it is attached with a hinge : total value, £2l 17s.
Christchurch. —Elizabeth Potts, Clare Road, reports that on the 31st ultimo her dwelling was broken into, and a loDg brown-leather purse, containing a £1 note and about twenty shillings in silver, stolen. Purse only identifiable.
Christchurch. —James Heiney, labourer, Marshlands, reports stolen from his hut, on the 26th ultimo, a light-brown tweed sac coat and vest, size 5 ; a £1 note and a sovereign : total value, £3 10s. Suspicion attached to Thomas Ervin, about nineteen years of age, about 5 ft. 7 in. high, stout build, dark complexion, no hair on face; dressed in browntweed suit and black cap. He ocoupied the same hut as complainant, and went away suddenly, leaving a week’s wages behind him. Was last seen going towards Christchuroh.
Christchurch. —Alma Dale, care Mr. Bloxam, Norman’s Lane, reports that about 9 p.m. on the 12th instant she was assaulted and robbed in Norman’s Lane by a man, name unknown. Description : About twenty-seven years of age, 5 ft. 7 in. high, medium build, fresh complexion, clean-shaved, small dark moustache ; dressed in dark suit, white shirt with black bow-tie, and hard black-felt hat. Identification doubtful. The following articles were taken from her: A blackleather brief-bag about 2 ft. long, marked with initials, which have been rubbed off ; a linen nightdress; five white pockethandkerchiefs, marked “A. Dale ”; a black-silk blouse, a Galatea and crimson blouse, a set of gold studs and two brooch-cases, a pair of ladies’ French shoes; a pair of ladies’ calf boots, marked “ Betkin ”; a leather case containing two pairs of scissors, a pocket-knife ; some collars, marked “Alma Dale ” ; a ladies’ gold brooch, double-bar horseshoe set with pearls in centre, marked “ Peterson ” ; a light-brown leather purse containing £1 35.; a ladies’ silver open-faced Geneva lever watch, number unknown, flowers on dial: total value, £lO 10s. Identifiable. The blouse and nightdress have been recovered in Papanui Road.
Lincoln. —William E. Edwards, farmer, reports that on the 15th ultimo his dwelling was broken into and the following stolen: A greenstone-and-ivory brooch, a small ivory knife-shaped brooch, a set of pearl studs and a set with gold tops and pearl bottoms, a gold horse-shaped breast-pin, two ornamental shells; a pearl-handled knife, German silver on ends, two blades; a bone-handled knife with one blade, and about 15s. in silver and copper; total value, £1 12s. 6d.
Waimate. —Edgar Smith, labourer, reports stolen from his tent, between the 27th ultimo and 2nd instant, a gentemen’s small gold double-case watch, E.H.S. scratched on the case, leather guard attached; value, £5. Suspicion attached to Frank Trainor, who ocoupied the same tent, and left for Christchurch, probably for Akaroa, on the 27th ultimo. Description: A native of Victoria, a labourer and sawmill hand, thirty-five years of age, looks much older, sft. 6in. high, stout build, dark complexion, dark hair turning grey, clean-shaved except very heavy dark moustache turning grey, smart appearance ; dressed in dark suit and hard-felt hat.
Timaru. —James Milligan, telegraph lineman, reports stolen from the passage of the Melville Hotel, on the 12th instant, a khaki-coloured covert coat, rent in left sleeve; an official envelope containing papers; a voucher-book of twentyfive vouohers, fourteen vouchers signed by McPherson and Shrimpton; and a pair of dark-grey woollen gloves: value, £2 12s. 6d.
Outram. —Arthur Brown, labourer, reports stolen from the Terminus Hotel, between the 16th March last and 6th instant, a nearly new brown-tweed sac suit of olothes; value, £4 10s. Identifiable.
Dunedin. —John Campbell, sexton, reports stolen from him in Princess or Union Street, on the Ist instant, a gentlemen’s hunting lever watch, No. 42920, with a (silver fetterlink pattern chain attached ; value, £7 15s.
