Deserting Wives and Families, &c.

Auckland.— Joseph Figueroa is charged on warrant with failing to provide for the maintenance of his illegitimate child. Description: A native of South America, a seaman, thirty years of age, 5 ft. 10 in. high, dark complexion, black hair, clean-shaved except moustache. Complainant: Eliza Briggs, Pitt Terrace.

(See Police Gazette, 1900, pages 87 and 97.) Auckland. —Leopold Ahrens, charged with wife-desertion, has been arrested and remanded.

Auckland. —Frank Hitchoock, oharged with disobeying an order of Court for the support of his illegitimate child, was seen in the Kyber Pass Road on the 27th December last. Photograph filed in Inspector’s office, Auckland.

Port Albert. —James Charles Booth, charged with disobeying an order of Court for the support of his ohild : The sum of £3O has been paid, and the warrant cancelled.

Christchurch. —James Brown, charged with disobeying an order of Court for the maintenance of his mother, has been arrested by Constable J. Walton, and remanded.

Christchurch. — Alfred Smart is oharged on warrant with disobeying an order of the Court to pay 3s. a week towards the support of his brother. Description: A native of New Zealand, a ploughman and shearer, thirty-nine years of age, 5 ft. 9 in. high, stout build, fair complexion and hair, slight fair beard whiskers and moustache, or may be clean-shaved, light-blue eyes, very sharp nose, right foot slightly bent inwards. Supposed gone to Feilding, and is well known to the Salvation Army officers there. The sum of £3 9s. was in arrears on the 13th November, 1900.

Christchukch. Ernest Townsend is charged on I warrant with failing to provide for the future maintenance | of his unborn illegitimate child. Description : A colonial, a carpenter, nineteen years of age, 5 ft. 6 in. or 7 in. high, dark complexion and hair, dark-brown eyes, clean-shaved; usually dressed in dark suit, and white-straw hat with black band. He left Lyttelton on the 7th ultimo for Sydney by the s.s. “ Waikare.” Complainant: Alice Elizabeth Offwood, 59, Stewart Street.

Christchurch. — Arthur Wilson is charged on warrant with failing to provide for the future maintenance of his unborn illegitimate child. Description: Colonial, booksellers’ salesman, about twenty-two years of age, about 5 ft. 9 in. high, rather stout build, clear complexion, black hair, brown eyes, clean-shaved except small black moustache, one tooth missing but not noticeable, erect gait; dressed in grey sac or dark-blue suit, with straw or hard-felt hat. His parents reside in Napier, and he was last seen there in June, 1900, and is now supposed to be in Queensland.

Christchurch. — John Walker is charged on warrant with disobeying an order of the Court to pay 10s. a week towards the support of his wife. Description: A native of New Zealand, a labourer, twenty-five years of age, 5 ft. 5 in. high, fair complexion, red hair, blue eyes. (See Police Gazette, 1899, page 140.) The sum of £4 was in arrears on. the 25th August last. He is said to have gone to Wellington.

Palmerston North. — James Harden is charged on warrant with failing to provide for the future maintenance of his unborn illegitimate child. Description: Supposed colonial, a jockey, between twenty-four and twentyeight years of age, about 5 ft. 5 in. high, about 8 stone weight, small features, blue eyes, dark-brown hair. Supposed to have left Wellington for Sydney about the Ist December last.

Timaru. —Charles Gibbs, charged with failing to provide for the maintenance of his illegitimate child, has been arrested by Constable D. Connolly, Invercargill polioe, on information supplied by Constable J. Keaney, and remanded.
