(See Police Gazette, 1899, page 175.) Hikurangi.— Arthur Prince, charged with false pretences on George Smith, has been arrested at Stratford and remanded to Whangarei.

(See Police Gazette, 1899, page 257.) Kimbolton.— Thomas Charles Denton’s horse has been returned to him by John Ballock.

Wellington.— On the 11th instant a man, name unknown, indecently assaulted Annie Dickson, a school-teacher, on the Kaiwara Road. Offender is about twenty years of age, about 5 ft. 6 in. high, medium build, full features, no hair on face, small grey 6yes ; dressed in dark-grey clothes and cap ; respectable appearance. Can be identified. No warrant. (See Police Gazette, 1899, page 219.)

Christchurch. —Joseph Jones, charged with the theft of Margaret Ro wherry’s watch (recovered), has been arrested by the Greytown North police on information supplied by Constable J. J. Cassells, of Christchurch, and sentenced to one month’s labour.

Temuka.— Harold Bay is charged on warrant with false pretences on Emily Whelan, wife of the licensee, Wallingford Hotel, on the 9th instant. Offender is about forty years of age, about 5 ft. 6 in. high, sallow complexion, dark hair, shaved except black moustache, stout build, full

face, speaks with a foreign accent, nose slightly turned up ; dressed in a bluish-grey tweed suit, and soft brown-felt hat; carried a brown-paper parcel. May be identical with Harold Bay, alias Smith (vide Police Gazette, 1899, page 38). He represented that he was travelling for Neal and Co., wine and spirit merchants, of Napier, and induced complainant to cash his cheque for £3. The cheque, which is drawn on the Bank of New Zealand, Ashburton, has been returned marked “ No account.”

Dunedin. — Thomas Scott is charged on two warrants of commitment in default of paying fines and costs amounting in all to £3 15s. for drunkenness and for being found on licensed premises during the currency of a prohibition order. Description : Irish, a bootmaker, forty-two years of age, 5 ft. 7 in. high, medium build, dark hair and complexion, dark eyes, dark brown moustache, and, when last seen, had about a week’s growth of hair on his face. Supposed to have gone to Sj 7 dney. Warrant addressed to Constable Dwan, Dunedin police.
