Devonport (Auckland). — Daniel Bogue is charged on warrant with the theft at Takapuna, on the 19th ultimo, of ten shillings’ worth of kauri-gum (recovered), the property of William Brown. Accused is a Colonial, a labourer, about eighteen years of age, about 5 ft. 7 in. high, rather slim build, stoops, slovenly gait, peculiar-shaped nose being thick at the point; dressed in a slop-made dark-tweed suit, dark-felt billycock hat, and heavy boots. A son of John Bogue, late licensee Lake Hotel, Takapuna. He failed to
appear on the 31st ultimo, in answer to a summons, and is supposed to be on one of the gum-fields near Takapuna or the Wade.
(See Police Gazette , 1899, page 219.) Kabangahake.— William Waters, charged with false pretences on Richard Julian Rusden, has been arrested by Constable W. J. Rist, Hokianga police.
Spit (Napier). — Phil. Smith is charged on warrant with having, between October, 1898, and January, 1899, indecently assaulted Annie Christjansen, a girl under the age of sixteen years. Description: A native of the colony, a labourer, about twenty-five years of age, 5 ft. 6 in. or 7 in. high, stout build, fair complexion, blue eyes, small fair moustache, dark hair, small nose, broad nostrils, full face, round chin, thick lips, large mouth, thick eyebrows meeting close together, discoloured teeth, good-looking; dressed when last seen in a blue-serge coat and vest, grey trousers, and soft light-coloured felt hat. Offender went south in January last, in company with one William Miles. Inquiry is requested at all freezing-works in the colony, as it is considered very probable that he will seek employment at some of them. His friends or relatives are said to reside near Cheviot, Christchurch District.
Dannevirke. — James Swan is charged on warrant with the theft, on the sth ultimo, of a cheque for £3, the property of Sergeant James Siddells. For offender’s description, see “ Prisoners discharged from Napier Gaol ” in this Gazette. He picked up the cheque while confined in the Dannevirke lock-up, and cashed it in Napier after being liberated from gaol.
Petone. — James Barker is charged on warrant with having, on the 13th ultimo, obtained £1 9s. 6d. from Eliza Tannahill, domestic servant, by false pretences. Offender is identical with James Haslem, convicted of perjury at Wellington on the 29th August, 1898. (For description see Police Gazette, 1899, page 38.) He represented that he was travelling for a Wellington warehouse, taking orders for clothing, and obtaining deposits.

(See Police Gazette , 1899, page 144.) Wellington.— John Henry Souper has been arrested by Sergeant J. S. Bernard, Hawera police. Fine and costs paid.
Wellington. — John McDonald is charged on warrant of commitment to the Terrace Gaol for seven days’ labour in default of paying £1 35., fine and costs, for travelling by
the s.s. “ Rotomahana ” from Lyttelton to Wellington without paying his fare. Description : Irish, a carpenter, sixtythree years of age, 5 ft. 10 in. high, medium build, fresh complexion, grey hair, grey eyes; has been in the Imperial Army. He&poke of going to Christchurch.
Dunsandel (Leeston). —Between 4 p.m. on the 14th and 5 a.m. on the 15th instant a gliding, value £ls, the property of John Samuel Boag, was maliciously stabbed by a doubleedged knife or dagger, and killed.

(Sea Police Gazette , 1899, page 230.) Dunedin. —Alfred Edwin Rolfo, alias James Bnvling Smith, for default of paving a fine and costs, has been arrested by Constable A. Moore.
