Housebreaking, Stealing from the Person, &c.

Auckland. —Mrs. Frances Richards, Owen’s Road, Mount Eden, reports that between the 12th and 19th instant her dwelling was broken into, and the following stolen : An oldfashioned gold chain, rope pattern, about 2 yards long; a plain gold wedding-ring ; a gold engagement-ring with heart of pearls, blue stones in centre, and compartment for hair ; a plain gold chain-ring; a gold keeper-ring set with a very large ruby ; a gold mourning-ring, having a silver forget-me-not, set with nine small diamonds, and a small place with some grey hair therein ; two old-fashioned gold shirt-studs, star raised in centre of each ; a gold pencil-case, with purple stone in end and circle of blue stones in middle, two stones missing ; a cross, back formed of gold, front a sort of black stone with diamond shape in centre and gold chased ; a George sovereign ; a small nugget, nearly all gold ; an oldfashioned gold locket, about the size of a two-shilling piece, glass missing ; a pair of gold ear-rings, each about the size of a sixpence, with emerald in centre ; and a small gold brooch with a black and grey stone, piece out: total value, £19145.

Devonport (Auckland).— Robert John Farrell, miner, reports that on the 12th instant his dwelling was broken into and the following stolen : A ladies’ gold albert chain, woven wire, with solid gold square pendant; two gold-mounted quartz pendants—one round, the other elongated ; a gold ring, set with a cluster of rabies and pearls, two or three stones missing; a gold cross brooch, worked in filigree; a gold cable bracelet with gold padlock; and two silver earrings with gold tops, leaf-pattern, one having three rabies, the other an amethyst: value, £lB.

Ashbubton. — Alfred Nicholls is charged on warrant with having, on the 21st instant, Btolen from a dwelling at Longbeach Station three £1 notes, a half-sovereign, and 17s. 6d. in silver, moneys of Joseph Henry and Herbert Clark. Accused is supposed English, nineteen or twenty years of age, 5 ft. 6 in. or 7 in. high, slight build, dark hair, cleansbaved ; dressed in a dark-twßad suit and dark cap ; usually wears shoes. He left for Christchfirch, where his mother is said to be living, on the date of the theft. Has been in the Burnham Industrial School.

Dunedin. —Julius Peterson, seaman, schooner “Enterprise,” reports stolen from the Ship Restaurant on the 31st ultimo a dark woolly waterproof overcoat with cape attached, two small buttons sewn on front of coat about the centre, small dark chain tab at back, nearly new, maker’s name not known but stamped on inside ; value, £2 10s. Suspicion attached to George Hughs, a cook on the Norwegian barque “ Belle,” which left for Wellington on the Ist instant. Description : Forty years of age, 5 ft. 10 in. high, stout build, dark hair, dark moustache only ; usually wears a blue-serge sac-suit and serge cap.

Owaka. —Robert Biyth, farmer, reports that on the 3rd instant his dwelling was broken into and the following stolen : A small Remington rifle, number unknown ; a new dark-tweed coat and vest, size 5 ; a red-and-white woollen bed-quilt, a pair of old moleskin trousers, a red-amd-white-striped waistbalt, and a white-handled pocket-knife : value, £3 9s.

Lumsden. —James Goldie, groom, Royal Mail Hotel, reports stolen from his room, between the 29th ultimo and the sth instant, a gentlemen’s silver albert watoh-ohain, double links ; silver locket, heart-shape, J.G. on one side and horse-shoe on the other; and a gold-mounted greenstone, cone-shape, about 2 in. long, attached : value, £1 10s.
