Shooting Season for Native Game extended. RANFURLY, Governor. ATTHEREAS by notifications under “The Animals VY Protection Act, 1880,” dated the twentieth day of March, one thousand eight hundred and ninety-nine, and published in the New Zealand Gazette of the twenty-third of the said month of March, it was declared that native game, with certain exceptions, might be taken or killed within the districts specified in the said notifications from the thirtyfirst day of March, one thousand eight hundred and ninetynine, to the thirtieth day of June, one thousand eight hundred and ninety - nine, both ' days inclusive : And whereas it is expedient to extend the time within which native game may be taken or killed within the said districts :
Now, therefore, I, Uehter John Mark, Earl of Ranfurly, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, in exercise of the powers vested in me by the said “ Animals Protection Act, 1880,” and the Acts amending the same, do hereby notify and declare that native game, excepting the species mentioned in the Schedule hereto, may be taken or killed until the thirty-first day of the present month of July throughout the said several districts, with the exception of the several areas or parts of districts especially exempted in the said notifications respective!}'.
SCHEDULE. Species not to be taken or killed. In all districts : Tui. liuia, white heron, and crested grebe. In Wellington District: Paradise-duck and blue mountainduck. In Marlborough District: Native pigeon, pukeko,
and paradise-duck. In Otago District: Wild geese and bittern. In Southland District: Great kiwi (roai-oa), morepork owl (ruru), and bittern. As witness the hand of His Excellency the Governor, this thirteenth day of July, one thousand eight hundred and ninetv-nine. J. CARROLL.
