Wellington. —On the 20th instant a deliberate attempt was made to destrov the premises occupied by Henry Savage, Saddler, Lambton Quay, a sheet of iron on the outside wall

having been prised up and a quantity of wax tapers placed underneath and ignited. The fire, however, was discovered and extinguished before much damage was done. The building is the property of Edward John Searle, licensee of the Royal Hotel, adjoining, and was insured by him in the Commercial Union Office for £660. The stock and furniture were insured by Mr. Savage in the Norwich Union Office for £SOO, that amount being about £2OO below the value.
