Auckland. — Albert CalYert is charged on warrant of commitment to Auckland Prison for one month’s labour in default of paying £5 195., fine and costs on conviction for keeping a brothel. Description : A native of Auckland, a fisherman, about twenty-four years of age, 5 ft. 6 in. or 7 in. high, slim build, fresh complexion, fair hair, shaved except very fair moustache.

Auckland. — Henry Pearce is charged on warrant of commitment to Auckland Prison for three days’ labour in default of paying £1 35., fine and costs on conviction for breach of the city by-laws. Description : A groom or driver, about twenty years of age, 5 ft. 7 in. or 8 in. high, medium build, fresh complexion, fair hair, shaved except fair moustache.

Auckland. Agnes Thompson, alias Austin, is charged on warrant of commitment to Auckland Prison for one month’s labour in default of paying £5 10s., fine and costs on conviction for keeping a brothel. Description : A prostitute, about thirty years of age, 5 ft. 5 in. or 6 in. high, stout build, pale face, very dark frizzly hair.

Auckland. — James Murray is charged on warrant of commitment to Auckland prison for fourteen days’ labour for having used indecent language in a public place on the Ist instant. Description: A native of New Zealand, a labourer, twenty-one years of age, 5 ft. 7 in. high, medium build, fresh complexion, brown hair, grey eyes. He failed to appear on the 13th instant on summons, and has left the Auckland District.

Hamilton. —-James Armstrong has disobeyed the terms of his release under “The First Offenders Probation Act, 1886.” Description: Supposed English, a blacksmith, thirty-three years of age, 5 ft. 6J in. high, stout build, fresh complexion, brown hair, dark eyes, medium nose mouth and chin, shaved except brown moustache and small sideboards; dressed, when last seen, in a dark-serge suit, and soft brown-felt hat. Was convicted at Hamilton on the 16th February last of false pretences, placed on probation for one month, and ordered to pay the prosecutor £3. He left about the end of the same month, and has failed to report himself or pay any of the money. His friends reside at Wanganui.

Hunterville. — Andrew Barry is charged on warrant with the theft, about the 22nd January last, of a saddle, value £4, the property of William Louis Young, saddler. Description : Irish, a labourer, twenty-eight years of age, 5 ft. in. high, medium build, fresh complexion, grey eyes, sharp nose, wide nostrils, dark-brown curly hair, small brown moustache and sideboards, talkative, and fond of drink ; dressed in a blue-serge suit and soft black-felt hat. He borrowed the saddle for a few days, and sold it to David Younge, of Makino, near Feilding. Is supposed to have gone to Christchurch. Other charges pending.

Hunterville.— William Monkley is charged on warrant with the theft, at Utiki, during the month of January last, of 10s., money of George Floyd, boardinghouse-keeper. Offender is supposed English, a labourer, twenty-five years of age, 5 ft. 5 in. high, dark complexion, medium build, shaved except very dark moustache, dark-brown hair;

dressed in a grey-tweed suitfand slouch hat. He received the above amount on behalf of complainant, and converted it to his own use. Last seen at Marton Junction on the 10th instant, going towards Wanganui.

Napier. —Edward Hobman is charged on warrant with the theft, on the 15th instant, of a bicycle, value £lO, the property of James Barkwith, Woodville: recovered. Description : A shoemaker, about twenty-five years of age, about 5 ft. 9 in. high, shaved except very slight moustache, fair complexion, slim build ; dressed in a darkish-grey tweed suit, and brown hat, “ Doctor Jim ” style. Offender hired the bicycle from complainant on the 2nd instant, at Woodville, and disposed of it on the above date to Mr. Prank Crawford, Clarendon Hotel, Napier, for £3 55., signing the receipt as “ Tom Thompson.” He spoke of going to Wellington.

Wellington. — F. Wood (name probably fictitious) is charged on warrant with the theft, on the 13th instant, of a bicycle, value £22, the property of John James Donner. Offender is supposed colonial, about twenty years of age, about 5 ft. 7 in. high, medium build, fresh complexion, cleanshaved ; dressed in a dark sac-suit, and cap with black-and-white stripes. He hired the bicycle on the above date, and should have returned it the same evening, but failed to do so. It is described as a gentlemen’s Atlanta roadster, No. 868, Dunlop tires, Westwood rims, Brook’s saddle, cork handles, points worn off, nearly new. He is further charged with the theft, on the Ist instant, of a Fairfield bicycle, S.A.B. in large letters on fork, number unknown, value £lO, the property of John Edward Evans, Lambton Quay, from whom he hired it.

Wellington. — Martin Dowman is charged on warrant with having, on the Bth instant, assaulted Wong Koon, storekeeper, Cuba Street. Description: Colonial, sixteen years of age but looks two or three years older, 5 ft. 8 in. or 9 in. high, medium build, dark hair, very dark complexion, dark eyes, dressed in a blue-cloth coat and vest, brown-tweed trousers, and blue cap ; fond of drink, and frequents hotels. There are other charges of wilfully damaging property against him. May have gone to Armchair Creek, near Blenheim, where his brother is working in a gold-mine; or to Purangi, near New Plymouth, where his uncle, William Dowman, a farmer, resides.

Christchurch. —Edward Creesy, default of fine and costs for assaulting Lucy Gillinghurst: This warrant has been executed by Constable John Forster, Foxton police. Amount paid.

Christchurch. Dora Stevenson is charged on warrant of commitment to Lyttelton Gaol for twelve hours, in default of paying a fine of 25., for neglecting to send her child to school regularly. Description : A widow, forty-five years of age, sft. 3in. high, slight build, hair turning grey, speaks in a high-pitched whining tone. Supposed to have gone to England.

Rangiora. — William Aubrey is charged on warrant with having, on the 7th instant, committed a common assault on Marian Dobson, fruiterer. Offender is supposed English, a labourer, about sixty years of age, about 5 ft. 9 in. high, medium build, fresh complexion, brown hair beard whiskers and moustache, all mixed with grey; dressed in a light-tweed sac-coat with large indistinct squares, trousers of same material, blue-dungaree coat underneath the other one, and soft black-felt hat with broad band; carried a swag containing a small tent. Supposed to have gone to Kaiapoi, potato-digging.

Oamaru. —Rape on Nellie Mathie: William Gilchrist, farmer, of Ardgowan, has been arrested by Constable Thomas Mayne for this offence, and committed for trial.

Lumsden. —A man known as “ Bill Lee ” is charged on warrant with having, at Balfour, on the 4th instant, uttered a forged cheque for £ls 7s. to Joseph Armitage Mills, storekeeper. Description: Supposed Scotch, a labourer or sailor, about thirty-five years of age, 5 ft. 9 in. high, medium build, dark complexion, large head, broad face, brown hair, whiskers cut short, red mark on forehead ; wore a new darktweed sac-suit and light-coloured golf-cap. Had a South African police-uniform in his swag. The cheque is drawn on the Bank of New Zealand, Gore, and purports to be signed by Keith Brothers (for whom the offender was working), but has been declared a forgery. Offender, who was working recently about Winton and Edendale, left by train for Dunedin on the sth instant, and spoke of going to Australia. His father resides at Adelaide.

Invercargill.— George Wilson is charged on warrant with false pretences on Alexander McCleary, hotelkeeper, between the 30th ultimo and the 6th instant. Description: A native of the Orkney Islands, a farm-labourer, about fiftynine years of age, about 5 ft. 11 in. high, medium build, fresh complexion, brown hair turning grey, partly bald on crown, heavy brown beard whiskers and moustache, erect gait, crucifixion tattooed on left forearm and anchor on back of left hand ; said to be fond of drink; dressed in a dark-tweed suit and soft brown-felt hat. He obtained £2 10s. 6d. in cash, and board and lodging to the value of £1 10s., by falsely representing that James Stevenson, farmer, of Wendon, owed him £3l. He spoke of going to Gore or Bannockburn.
