Wellington. — Henry Grant is charged on warrant with failing to provide for the future maintenance of his unborn illegitimate child. Description: A native of New Zealand, a butcher, nineteen years of age, about 5 ft. 4 in. high, fresh complexion, light-brown hair, no hair on face, grey eyes, slight build, dressed in a blue-cloth sac-suit, and black-and-white straw hat. His grandmother, Mrs. Abbott, resides in Oamaru, near the Mills. He is said to have left per s.s. “ Westralia ” for Lyttelton on the 24th ultimo.

Description : Irish, a clerk, but has been recently working as a labourer, thirty-eight years of age, 5 ft. 6in. or 7 in. high, stout build, brown hair turning grey, blue eyes, ruddy complexion; when last seen was shaved except heavy fair moustache. Was employed at the Terrace Gaol about four years ago as temporary warder. The sum of £5 18s. is now in arrears to the 10th October, 1898. Complainant, Ellen Peters, care of Mrs. Ford, Wallace Street.

Christchurch.— Albert Fitzhenry is charged on warrant with failing to make provision for the future maintenance of his unborn illegitimate child. Description : A native of New Zealand, a compositor, twenty-two years of age, 5 ft. 5 in. high, slight build, fair hair and complexion, no beard or moustache. Photograph at Inspector’s office. Complainant, Katie O’Keefe, spinster, 16, Hereford Street.

Description: A native of Queensland, a groom, thirty-seven years of age, 5 ft. 7J in. high, fair complexion, brown hair, blue eyes, medium nose. (See Police Gazette, 1897, page 58.)

Christchurch. — John William Metcalf is charged on warrant with deserting his wife, Ada Rose Metcalf, since the 3rd instant. Description : English, a tinsmith, thirty-one years of age, 5 ft. 5 in. high, fair hair moustache and whiskers, weak blue eyes. Photograph at Inspector’s office. Supposed to have gone to Invercargill or Gore.

Christchurch. — Walter William Rowe is charged on warrant with deserting his wife, Margaret Rowe, since the 27th ultimo. Description: A labourer, about thirtynine years of age, 5 ft. 5 in. high, medium build, dark hair, face tanned, shaved except moustache, very heavy long dark eyebrows, tattooed on one arm ; was a sailor twentyfive or twenty-six years ago, and has several ship-discharges in which his name is given as “ Williams.” He wrote from Dunedin on the 27th ultimo saying he intended leaving for Melbourne by the s.s. “ Tarawera ” on that date, but is supposed to have gone to Wellington.

Timaru.— Caleb Armstrong is charged on warrant with failing to provide for the maintenance of his illegitimate child since the 6th ultimo. Description : A native of New Zealand, a labourer or ploughman, twenty-two years of age, about 5 ft. 6 in. high, stout build, fair complexion, rather reddish face, fair hair, small fair moustache only. Supposed to have gone to Dunedin.

Wellington. — Joseph Irving is charged on warrant with deserting his wife, Gertrude Priscilla Irving, since the 29th ultimo. Description: A native of New Zealand, a painter andpaperhanger, twenty-seven years of age, 5 ft. 2 in. high, very dark complexion, dark hair, dark moustache, dark-brown eyes, very thin, long features, slightly bowlegged. He was employed by Mr. Hall, at Gisborne, and wrote from there on the 26th ultimo, saying he was going to Sydney ; but may be in Auckland.
