Horse- and Cattle-stealing.

Auckland. —William Crawford, farmer, Epsom, reports stolen from a paddock, on the 18th or 19th April last, a very dark-brown mare, over 16 hands high, hind feet white, very small white strip on face, no visible brands, broken to saddle and buggy-harness ; value, £l2 10s.

Manaia. —Frederick A. Outfield, farmer, Taitaku Road-N , reports stolen, on the 30th March or Ist April last, a light?''* , bay gelding, hack breed, four years old, 16 hands high, on hind-fetlock white, near hock curved, unbranded; value, £lO.

Hawera. —Henare Paparua is charged on warrant with, having, at Hastings Koaci, near Norman by, about the month] of March last, stolen a horse (recovered), the property ir Tame Tanga, farmer, of Ketemarae. Offender is a Maori, forty-five years of age, 5 ft. 7£ in. high, square build, copper complexion, brown eyes, black hair side-whiskers and very,/ heavy moustache turning grey, chin shaved; speaks very volubly, and is always talking about his deceased wife. He was served with a summons by the Wanganui police to attend at Hawera on the Ist instant, but did not appear, and is supposed to have gone to Parihaka.

Hastings. —Samuel Barnes, bricklayer, reports stolen, , about the 15th ultimo, a dark-brown gelding, light draught, branded W in circle on off shoulder, star on forehead, one white hind foot; rising four years old ; value not stated.

Levin. —Mrs. S. H. Wilson, Ohau, reports stolen, on the A Ist or 2nd April last, a dark-bay gelding, half-draught breed,, aged, about 15 hands high, white blaze down face, one hind ( foot white, invisible star brand on rump ; value, £l3.

Christchurch. —Frederick John Reece, boardinghousekeeper, Colombo Street, reports stolen from a paddock, on the 26th or 27th ultimo, a grey gelding, three-quarters draught, 15 hands high, Roman nose, brand unknown; value, £5. Suspicion attached to William Williams, who stopped at complainant’s, and is supposed to have gone to Rangiora. Description: Twenty-two years of age, 5 ft. 3 in. high, stout build, fair complexion, clean-shaved ; dressed in a blue-serge suit and soft black hat.
