Thames. —John Ellings is charged on warrant with the theft, at Whangamata, about the 21st August, 1897, of two £5 and one £1 notes on the Bank of New Zealand, and a Post-Office Savings-Bank book, No. 13160; the property of Thomas Edwards, miner. Offender is a native of Cornwall, England, a miner, about forty-five years of age, very stout build, about 12 st. 121 b. weight, dark complexion, small dark moustache, dark-grey eyes, slightly bald on top and in front of head. Complainant intrusted him with the money to lodge in the Thames Savings-bank, which has not been done. Accused has a cousin, William Ellings, at Kuaotunu, and is said to have property at Doyleston and Geraldine, Canterbury.
New Plymouth. —Edward Dore, aliassV> oree, alias James Wilson, is charged on warrant of comnlitnMnt to the New* Plymouth Gaol for seven days’ for an order of Court to pay 7s.fjd.,£l of Description: Colonial, a lmM/jnfc, oifihjy onie Ayfors a S e i 5 ft. 9£ in. high, medium hair, grey eyes, long thick jftfee, featsON/sl bpil-mark on right wrist, blue spot on lift wrist; dressbl in a grey-tweed sac suit, and soft drab-felt hat. Wanganui. —George Kershaw is charged on warrant of commitment to Wanganui Gaol for two months’ labour default of paying £lO 10s. 6d., fine and costs, for assaulting Wong Chong. Description: Colonial, a labourer, twentyfive years of age, 5 ft. 9 in. high, stout build, fair complexion, fair hair and moustache, brown eyes; usually wears lighttweed clothes, and black-felt hat; addicted to drink.
Wellington. —Jackson Dallas Stanford is charged on warrant with false pretences on Albert Nash, at Dannevirke, on or about the 4th August, 1897. Description : Supposed English, about thirty years of age, 6 ft. 3£ in. high, dark hair and complexion, shaved except dark moustache ; dressed in; a dark sac suit, and hard black-felt hat. He obtained the sum of £4 from complainant by falsely representing that he had a large sum of money coming to him from England. He was seen in Napier on the 28th ultimo. (2—164.),

' (See Police Gazette, 1897, page 164.) Christchurch. —William Miller, charged on warrant of commitment in default of paying £3 12s. 10d., fine and costs for trespass, has been arrested by Constable J. C. Griffiths, Palmerston North police. Amount paid.
