Horse- and Cattle-stealing.
Rawene (Hoiiianga). Arthur Phillips is charged on warrant with the theft at (Jiio Settlement, about the 9th May, 1896, of a heifer, value £4 10s., of Hilderbrand Johansson. Since recovered. Offender is about twenty-two years of age, about 6 ft. high, stout build, dark
hair, little or no hair on face. Is said to have been a patient in the Auckland Hospital, and may have gone to Normanby, Taranaki, where his father, a school-teacher, resides. He sold the heifer to a Mr. Manning during the month of November last.
Marton. —James Mcßeth, farmer, reports stolen from a paddock, between the 7th and 13th ultimo, fifty six Lincoln ewes, four-toothed, in lamb, branded JMB with black paint on rump, top cut off and two nicks out of the upper side of left ear ; value, £3O lGs.
Oxford (Canterbury). Frederick Crow reports stolen from a paddock on the Dep6t Road, West Oxford, between the 21st June and 2nd August, 1897, ten fat wethers, two- and four-toothed, half- and three-quarter-bred Border Leicesters, branded like a crown with red raddle and oil on back ; value, 16s. each.
Fairlie. Miss Anna McLean, Strathcorman, reports stolen from a paddock, between the Ist and 14th ultimo, eleven Romney Marsh ewes, four- and six tooth, branded M in blue on near shoulders, near ears nipped in front, and tips off off ears; value, £1 each.
Pleasant Point. —Mrs. Jane Gould, Waterfall, reports stolen, about the 2Gth July last, a chestnut mare, unbroken, hack breed, two and a half years old, about 15 hands high, white blaze down face, hind legs white above fetlocks, tail has been docked but since grown long and small; value, £lO.
