Auckland.— John Leydon, auctioneer, Queen Street, reports stolen from his mart, on the 16th ultimo, an English silver lever hunting-watch, maker and number unknown, N.B. on front case ; value, £1 15s.

Auckland. —Thomas Beal, auctioneer, Queen Street, reports stolen from his mart, between the Ist and 20th ultimo, a double barrelled breech-loading gun, maker T. Murcott, London, rebounding locks, top action, 12 bore, walnut stock with black-composition heel-plate ; value, £4 10s.

Auckland.— Disraeli Louis Goldwater, watchmaker, 196, Victoria Street West, reports that on the 21st ultimo his shop was broken into, and the following stolen : Six small clocks, six silver links, one dozen thimbles, a silver thimble in case, three dozen silver brooches, a ladies’ silver chain, a silver pendant, three gold-plated brooches (one engraved “Maggie”), a dozen silver rings on a blue-velvet stand, a dozen key-chains, a dozen nickel-plated chains, two goldplated double chains, six nickel-plated chains on a card, eighteen bangles, eighteen gold-plated sleeve-links, two preserve dishes, two silver Jubilee bangles, two silver scarf-pins, two silver pencils, two silver toothpicks, three 9-carat gold shirt-studs, two sets of silver studs, two fruit-knives with pearl handles, and a dozen pearl studs; value, £l3 13s. 6d. Identifiable. Suspicion attached to a man, name unknown, who was seen loitering about the premises. Description : About twenty-six years of age, 5 ft. 7 in. high, stout build, dark hair and complexion, heavy brown moustache ; dressed in a dark-brown tweed overcoat, and hard black hat; carried an umbrella. Can be identified.

Thames. Elizabeth Martin, boardinghouse-keeper, reports stolen from off a clothes-line, on the 20th or 21st ultimo, two white quilts for single beds, stamped P.8.H.; about a dozen white bedroom-towels, two white sheets, marked “ Mrs. Martin, Provincial Boardinghouse ” ; a man’s flannel shirt, and a blue-coloured shirt: value, £2 3s.

Stratford. —Breaking into and stealing from the Stratford Post office : Roderick McKenzie, alias R. B. Williams, arrested and committed for trial. J. McWilliams’s promissory note for £4 4s. and H. M. Skeet’s cheque for £1 Is. have been recovered. The following are still missing: viz., Cheque for £8 6s. Bd. on Bank of New South Wales, New Plymouth, drawn by the Maketau Dairy Company, payable to E. Burgess and Sons, Stratford ; cheque for £8 19s. sd. on Bank of Australasia, Auckland, drawn by the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, payable to J. G. Blow, and indorsed by him ; Government cheque for £2 os. 9d., on Bank of New Zealand, New Plymouth, drawn by G. F. Robinson; (these had been paid into the National Bank of New Zealand at Stratford, and bear its stamp) : cheque for £37 10s. 10d., dated 20th July, 1897, on Bank of Australasia, Hawera, drawn by C. Brown, payable to T. E. Coleman ; promissory note, dated 30th June, 1897, for £76 11s. Id., drawn by C. A. Wilkinson, payable to Newton King at Bank of Australasia, Hawera ; (both had been passed through Bank of New Zealand, Stratford, and bear its stamp): cheque dated 28th July, 1897, for £2 16s. on Bank of New Zealand, Stratford, drawn by A. C. Bennett (had passed through Bank of New Zealand, Inglewood, whose stamp it bore): cheque (crossed) No. 2565, for £l9 45., dated sth April, 1897, on Bank of New South Wales, New Plymouth, drawn by the Taranaki County Council; cheque for £6 16s. 9d., on Bank of Australasia, Wanganui, drawn by W. H. Vereker-Bindon, payable to J. Sinclair ; cheque for £1 on Bank of New Zealand, Stratford, drawn by A. B. Catchpole; (payment of these three has been stopped).

Wellington. —John Jack, jun., reports stolen from the yacht “ Ngaire,” between the 14th and 22nd July last, a large-sized red blanket, or travelling-rug, blue on one side, tartan on the other side ; a down quilt, a pair of trousers, a

maroon-coloured table-cloth, trimmed with gold braid; seven tins of marmalade, seven tins of fish; and a small nickelplated clock ; value, £4 10s.

Greymouth. —Robert Brown, butcher, reports stolen, on the Ist ultimo, a black- and white-spotted collie bitch, heavy in pup ; value, £5.

Lyttelton.— Simon Fraser, manager, Bank of New Zealand, reports stolen from his yard, on the 21st or 22nd ultimo, a clothes-wringer, bottom roller worn; a brass preservingpan, lined with copper; a large spade; and a quantity of provisions: value, in all, £2.

Christchurch. —James Ashley, railway inspector, Wilson’s Road, Opawa, reports stolen from off a clothes-line, on die 10th or 11th ultimo, a gentlemen’s flannelette nightshirt with breast-pocket, nearly new; a gentlemen’s white shirt with narrow wristbands, much worn ; a pair of socks; a boys’ under-flannel and Oxford shirt; and some collars and handkerchiefs, the latter marked M: value, £1 Is.

Christchurch.— Stolen from off a clothes-line at Walpole Street, Sydenham, on the 10th or 11th ultimo, two pillowcovers with crochet borders, twelve white handkerchiefs, marked with a cross, one also having J.M. thereon in silk ; a flannel undershirt with piece sewn on at bottom, a pair of unbleached cotton drawers, a pair of fawn-coloured woollen socks, a pair of ladies’ stockings, and two bath-towels with red stripes; value, £1 9s. 6d.; the property of William James Crawford: also a blue-coloured union shirt with collar, feather-stitching down breast, a white shirt, a pair of blue cashmere socks, a pair of yellow-coloured merino drawers, and an unbleached cotton undershirt; value, £1 6s. 6d. ; the property of Herbert Keane.

Christchurch. —Frank Hichens, labourer, reports stolen from the porch of St. Michael’s Church, Lichfield Street, on the 15th ultimo, a brown mackintosh overcoat, small size, with very long cape, Scotch-plaid lining, seams rather large, chain tab ; value, £2 ss.

Cheviot.— Daniel Fraser, overseer, Cheviot County Council, reports stolen from the Council Offices, McKenzie, on the 27tli July last, a small anvil, weight 1 cwt. 1 qr. 231 b.; value, £1 10s.

Kaiapoi. —Breaking into a building at Woodend, and stealing therefrom : A number of the stolen articles have been found on a vacant section, but the following are still missing: viz., Alfred Winterbourne’s two chisels, cord-line, nail-pocket, and kit; and Frederick Pearce’s kit, nail-pocket, cord-line, aud cbisel.

Palmerston South. —John Beeton reports stolen at Dunback, on the 15th or 16th ultimo, forty rabbit-traps, supposed identifiable by a nick in plate of each, and an adze; value, £1 10s.

Dr. Alfred Neale reports stolen from the Town Hall, on the 20th ultimo, a white-fur operacloak, white llama lining, 37 in. long, having two short capes lined with swausdown, high collar; and a double-breasted black-cloth cloak, lined with grey and brown squirrel-fur, high collar, trimmed with brown bearskin, length 18 in.: value, £lO.

Dunedin. —Septimus Myers and Co., dentists, Octagon, report stolen from their office, on the 19th or 20th ultimo, two £lO notes, one £5 note, two or three £1 notes; a postal note for £l, No. (supposed) 94952, and another for Is., supposed numbered 533422.

Dunedin. —John Loughlin reports that on the 17th or 18th ultimo a storeroom in the yard of the St. Kilda Hotel was broken into, and the following stolen : Four bags of oaten chaff, a bag and a half of bran, a bushel of barley, and about forty empty four-bushel corn-sacks ; value, £2 6s.

Dunedin. —Miss Laura Curtis reports stolen from a rail-way-carriage, at Dunedin, on the 16th ultimo, a brown sealskin handbag, containing a £5 note, two £1 notes, about £1 in silver, a brown-leather purse with clasp, a newspapercutting, an ivory tablet, a bunch of keys, a new black notebook with complainant’s name on first page, and a whitecomposition comb with several teeth missing; value, in all, £9 18s.
