Auckland.— Alfred Cross is charged on warrant of commitment to Auckland Prison for seven days' labour in default of paying £2 45., fine and costs, on conviction under the city by-laws. Description: A cabman, country unknown, about twenty-six years of age, 5 ft. 11£ in. high, medium build, sallow complexion, dark hair, small dark moustache ; dressed in a dark coat and vest, light-tweed trousers, and soft brownfelt hat. He is supposed to have gone to Sydney.

Auckland. —Edgar Winter is charged on warrant of commitment to Auckland Prison for seven days’ labour in default of paying £1 11s., fine and costs, for a breach of the city by-laws. Description : A cab-driver, about thirty-six years of age, 5 ft. 8 in. or 9 in. high, stout build, dark complexion, dark hair and moustache, nationality uuknown ; usually wears a dark-serge suit.

Auckland.— Alonzo Davitt, charged on warrants of commitment in default of paying fines and costs for wilful damage, has been arrested by Constable E. Mackle, Newmarket police, and lodged in Mount Eden Gaol.
Huntly (Waikato).— James Murphy is charged on warrant with false pretences on James Montgomery, licensee, Club Hotel, on the 81st July, 1897. Description: Between forty * and fifty years of age, about 5 ft. 10in. high, slight build, fair complexion, moustache only, scar on face, fond of drink, talks loudly. Well known at Mercer. Ho gave complainant a cheque on the Bank of New Zealand, Hamilton, for £1 in payment of board and lodging, but it has been ascertained that he has no account at that bank.
Cambridge.— George William Philips is charged on warrant with false pretences on Charies Craig, tailor, on the 14th June, 1897. DescriptionyW/quarter-caste Maori, twenty three years of age, slight nuild, s'ttf'yin. or 9 in. high, dark hair and mopfcmcliA only, polite quiet manner ; dressefl/H/U poat and vest, and dark binding, and hard hat. He xpotamed a suit of clothes from complainant by falsely stating that he had money in the Post-Office Savings-bank at Wellington, and that he had instructed the local Postmaster to send for it. He is supposed to have gone to Rawene.

Waitekaurl— Gordon Johnstone Douglas, charged with failing to pay £2 10s. Gd., fine and costs, was last seen in Auckland on the 9th ultimo, on which date he is supposed to have left for Sydney by the s.s. “ Anglian.”

Wellington. —Frederick Keeper, charged with false pretences on Henry Richmond, has been arrested by Constable G. H. Nixon. Fined £l, and ordered to pay 12s. to complainant, or, in default, fourteen days’ labour.

Oamaru. —John Bibby has disobeyed the terms of his release under “The First Offenders’ Probation Act, 1886.” Description : A native of New Zealand, a farm-labourer, seventeen years of age, 5 ft. 3f in. high, medium build, fresh complexion, brown hair, grey eyes, medium nose, large features; dressed in a dark-tweed suit, and small blackfelt hat. Has friends at Dunedin and Lyttelton. He has left the district without informing the Probation Officer, and his arrest is requested.
