Auckland. —Joseph Watson Kennedy is ofcarged on warrant with false pretences on W/Kjain HarrJ Cook and Co., furniture warehousemen, Grey Street, c/a fno 12th instant. Description: English, ahoufcj; years of age, 5 ft. 6 in. high, slight build, mraJw prx&k complexion, thin narrow features, long thinmose, jn left eye, dark hair, bald in front, slightly deaf; dressecmn a blue-serge suit, and black-and-white straw hat. / (See Police Gazette, 1889, page 24, and 1894, page 151.) Offender obtained goods to the value of £5 10s., for which he gave his cheque on the National Bank of New Zealand for £lO, receiving the difference in cash. The cheque has been returned marked “No account."

Masterton. —On the 12th instant a man, name unknown, wilfully and obscenely exposed his person to two schoolchildren, Gladys Amelia Blandford and Winnie Bentley. Offender is about thirty years of age, about 5 ft. 10 in. high, shaved except fair moustache; dressed in a grey-tweed suit and grey cap with peak. His identification is doubtful. No warrant.

Waipawa. —John Atken, charged with having forged a cheque, and uttered the same to John Brooke, has been arrested by Constable D. Brosnahan, Waipukurau police, and remanded. Offender states his proper name is Alexander Kerr. (See Police Gazette, 1897, page 86.)

Wellington.— Charles McDonald, alias Enticott, charged with the theft of goods the property of Ellen Williams, has been arrested by Constable C. Cooper, Masterton police, and remanded to Wellington.

Westport. —Louis Martin is charged on warrant with failing to appear on summons as a witness in the Magistrate’s Court on the 4th instant. Description : French, a miner, about thirty years of age, 5 ft. 7 in. or 8 in. high, stout build, dark hair, sallow complexion, shaved except dark moustache. He is supposed to have left Wellington for Sydney by the s.s. “ Mararoa ” on the Bth instant.

Christchurch.— James Jackson, charged with the theft of H. J. Hall’s eggs, has been arrested by Constable P. McGill, Addington police, and sentenced to three months’ imprisonment.

Clyde. —William F. Bishop is charged on warrant with having, on the 24th ultimo, obtained from Reuben James Trim, manager of the Dunstan Hotel, the sum of £3 by means of a valueless cheque. Description : Colonial, twenty-eight years of age, 5 ft. 10 in. or 11 in. high, medium build, very dark complexion, dark hair and moustache, dark eyes; dressed in a black-serge suit, and black cap witn badge of the Vincent County Cycle Club ; represented himself as being an engineer on one of the dredges at Cromwell. The cheque is drawn on the Roxburgh Branch of the Bank of New Zealand, but has been returned marked “ No account.” Offender left Lawrence on the Ist instant for Dunedin, and there are other charges pending. His parents reside at Balclutha.

Invercargill. —Samuel George Barber is charged on warrant with the theft of £4 Os. 6d., money of Robert Erskine, bookbinder, on or about the Ist April, 1897. De- < scription : English, twenty-one or twenty-two years of agef/ 5 ft. 8 in. or 9in. high, medium build, dark complexion, slightly Jewish features, dark hair, hazel eyes, good teeth, which he is fond of showing, two very scars on left side of neck (the result of a surgical operation); t good address; a very heavy cigarette-smoker; said to speak several languages; may be wearing a blue sac-suit, high h collars, and steel watch-guard. Offender was canvassing for complainant, and collected the above amount, but failed to hand it over. He is supposed to have gone north, and may endeavour to leave the colony. Said to be well known to a George Packer, photographer, Wellington, and to Mr. Reidle, of the Dresden Company, Dunedin. His defalcations amount to over £3O.
