Horse- and Cattle-stealing.

Auckland. —J. B. Wilson (name probably fictitious) is charged on warrant with having, on the 14th or 15th ultimo, stolen a mare, value £B, the property of James Wilkie, cor-dial-maker, Stanley Street, since recovered. Offender is about twenty-two years of age, sft. 6in. or sft. 7in. high, slender build, dark hair and complexion, very little hair on

face; dressed in a dark-blue serge coat and vest, black trousers, and hard black-felt hat. He was last seen in company with a man named James Troy, who is described as a native of Ireland, a jockey, forty-three years of age, sft. 7m. high, stout build, fair complexion, brown hair, grey eyes..

Hawera. —Elliot L’Estrange Barton, barrister, reports / stojep from a paddock, on the 7th or Bth instant, a darkfl/rlJahepCniit gelding, 15 hands high, cob tail and mane, small whiie'star on forehead, thick on withers, no visible brands ; value, £l2.

Hawera. —Tommy (Maori) reports stolen from a paddock at Taiporohenui, on the 17th ultimo, a grey gelding, seven years old, 16 hands high, branded PAR on right shoulder; value, £B.

Wanganui. —William Lomax, Te Rimu, reports stolen, about the 18th ultimo, a mixed lot of about one hundred and fifty sheep (hoggets, ewes, and lambs), all cross-bred Lincolns and Leicesters, ear-marks cannot be described; value, £IOO. Identification doubtful. They are supposed to have been taken away in canoes by Wanganui River Maoris.

Wanganui. —William Chapman, farmer, Fordell, reports stolen from a paddock, between the 29th December, 1896, and the 29th January, 1897, 270 pure-bred Lincoln ewes, and fifty lambs, same breed. Ewes ear-marked with two notches out of the under-side of right ear, and branded JC (conjoined) with black raddle and oil on back. Lambs not branded or ear-marked. Value, about £3OO.
