Auckland.— John Bancroft is charged on warrant with the theft, on the 28th November, 1896, of £1,132 6s. 4d., moneys of the Industrial and Provident Permanent Land and Investment Society of Auckland. Description : English, about forty years of age, sft. Bin. or 9in. high, stout build, full face, very fair complexion, fair hair, sandy moustache and side-hoards ; usually wears a light-grey tweed suit, and hard brown hat. Offender, who was manager of the society, obtained three cheques amounting to the above sum and cashed them at the National Bank of New Zealand. He is supposed to have left by the s.s. “ Mariposa ” for San Francisco on the same day.
Auckland. —Henry Cuthbertson is charged on warrant with the theft, on the sth, 13th, and 29th August last respectively, of £5 3s. lid., £1 16s. 10d., and £3 Is. 9d., moneys of John Lawson, Official Assignee in bankruptcy. Description : Scotch, about forty-one years of age, sft. 7in. or Bin. high, medium build, dark hair and complexion, full dark whiskers neatly trimmed, stoops slightly ; usually wears a walking-coat, hard-felt hat, and dark-tweed trousers. Offender, who carried on the business of a grain merchant in Durham Street, was adjudged a bankrupt on the 4th August, 1896, and received the above-mentioned sums, but failed to account for them to the Assignee. His defalcations amount to about £7O, and he is further charged with falsifying his books.
Pukekohe. —Arthur Samuel Crawford is charged on warrant with having assaulted Ethel Wright, a schoolgirl, on the 23rd ultimo. Description: Supposed Irish, thirty-five to forty years of age, sft. 4in. high, stout build, sallow complexion, light-sandy or reddish beard whiskers and moustache, peculiar manner, talks to himself; wore a grey-tweed suit and straw hat with large leaf. Has been in a lunatic asylum.
