Stealing Otherwise than from the Person or from Dwellings.
Danevirke. —Thomas Fitzsimmons and a man named Woods are charged on warrant with the theft, on the 30th ultimo, of a new tent, marked 8 x 10 over 2, and fly ; value, £1 155.; the property of David Smith. Fitzsimmons is a colonial, twenty-five years of age, slight build, sft. 7in. or Bin. high, sandy or carroty complexion, freckled face, thin features, sandy moustache only, inflamed eyes, a compositor by trade, but has been employed in a circus ; dressed in a dark-tweed suit. Woods is an Englishman, about twentyfive years of age, sft. Bin. or 9in. high, heavy muscular build, double-jointed, has been an acrobat, fair complexion and moustache only; wore a light-grey tweed suit and knitted Tam o’ Shanter cap. They are supposed to have gone to Ashurst, en route to Wellington.
Rotorua.— Alexander Robinson reports stolen from a rail-way-wagon atTarukenga, between the 19th and 21st ultimo, a 1001 b. bag of Bycrofb’s Snow-drift flour, marked A.R. over T.; value, 14s.
Wellington. John Patterson, Victoria Street, reports stolen from a building he was erecting in Elizabeth Street, on the 6th October last, a wrought-iron screw flooring-cramp, maker W. Bissett, Wolverhampton ; value, £1 10s.
Wellington. William Murphy, tailor, Willis Street, reports stolen from his shop, on the 27th ultimo, a pair of shears ; value, £1 ss. Identifiable.
Wellington. Joseph Zachariah, pawnbroker, Willis Street, reports stolen from his shop, on the 27th ultimo, a double-barrelled breech-loading gun, bottom action, barrels slightly rusted, otherwise in fair condition; value, £4 10s.
Christchurch.— George Clark, shop-assistant, 62, Lichfield Street, reports stolen from a tent at New Brighton, on the 18th ultimo, a single-barrelled Martini-Henry breechloading gun, had two cracks in the wood at the heel of butt, the figure of a duck in black metal thereon, and was enclosed in a green-baize cover; value, £2 10s.

Dunedin.— Thomas Richens, alias Rickens, charged with stealing Alexander Wilson’s clothing (recovered), has been arrested by Chief Detective M. O’Connor, Dunedin police, and sentenced to six months’ labour.
Port Chalmers.— David McKenzie, Deborah Bay, reports stolen, on the 20th or 21st ultimo, a fishing-boat with rudder about 28ft. long by 6ft. beam, painted black on top, red on bottom, and a yellow streak all round, decked fore and aft with a washboard, capable of carrying three tons, contained two oars, 16ft. and 17ft. respectively, one new, the other worn ; a tan-coloured spritsail, two jib-sails, a new spritsail, two suits of oilskins (one new, the other old), five fishinglines, and an anchor about 101 b. weight: value, in all £2O ss.

Balclutha. —Alexander Nichol’s horse-cover has been found, and suspicion is therefore no longer attached to William Kirk.

Waikaia.— Ernest Pearce, charged with the theft of 320 rabbits, the property of John Miller Hazledine, has been arrested by Constable P. J. Herlihy, Waikaia police. Robert Edward Thomas, charged with the same offence, is supposed to be shearing at Pareora Station, near Timaru.
Blenheim. —W. E. Clouston, merchant, reports stolen from his office, between the 24th and 26th ultimo, a ladies’ black oxidized silver keyless watch, chrystal glass, antique pattern, quite new ; value, £1 10s. Suspicion attached to Richard Horne, a native of Blenheim, twenty-eight years of a<*e, sft. llin. high, slight build, brown beard (rather pointed)’ whiskers and moustache cut short; dressed in a blue coat and vest, light trousers, and soft brown-felt hat; wears a heavy watch-chain ; has a brown overcoat. He left for Wellington on the last above-mentioned date.
