Appointments as Constables. Douglas Morton Mackenzie, No. 756. William Driver Potter, No. 757. Discharged on Compensation. Constable Bobert Bainier Jones, No. 141. Dismissed. Constable Edward McManus Sharpe, No. 711. Constable Charles Dempster, No. 712. Rewards. Constable R. Oliphant, No. 672, Auckland police, has been awarded £5 from the Reward Fund in recognition of his plucky conduct in jumping into the harbour at night, and rescuing a woman who attempted to drown herself.
Constables P. Moore, No. 637, and J. Connell, No. 666, Lyttelton police, have been awarded £2 each for arresting absentees from H.M.S. “ Katoomba.” (96/37.) (See Police Gazette, 1896, page 103.)
The award of 10s., re conviction of C. Kron for smuggling, and assaulting an officer at Auckland, was made by the Customs Department to Constable J. McDonald, No. 642, in error. It should have been to Constable Luke McDonnell, No. 203. (96/57.)
Constable J. Mcllveney, No. 697, Auckland police, has been awarded £1 for arresting a straggler from H.M.S. “Katoomba.” (96/37.)
Detective W. L. Chrystal, No. 344, and Constable TQuirk, No. 627, Auckland police, have been awarded 15s. each for arresting a deserter from H.M.S. “ Katoomba,” the remaining portion of the reward (£1 10s.) going to the informer. (96/37.)
