Deserting Wives and Families, &c.
(See Police Gazette, 1895, page 155.) Auckland. —Thomas G. Petty, charged on warrant of commitment in default of maintenance of his children, has been arrested by Constable C. O’Reilly, Opotiki police, and sent to Auckland Gaol.
Wanganui. —Henry Davy is charged on warrant with disobeying an order of Court, made on the 2nd February, 1895, to pay Bs. per week for the maintenance of his wife, the sum of £ll 4s. being due on the 31st August last. Description: Colonial, a surveyor’s chainman, forty-two years of age, about sft. lOin. high, medium build, dark-brown hair (turn-
ing grey), heavy dark-brown moustache only, brown eyes, large ears, broad shoulders, stoops slightly when walking, EGA tattooed on one wrist (see Police Gazette, 1894, pages 71 and 96). Supposed to have gone to the Auckland gumfields.
Napier. —Edward Ernest Aulsebrook, licensee of the Shamrock Hotel, Awatoto, near Napier, is charged on warrant with having deserted his wife, Marion, since the 28th ultimo. Description : English, about twenty-seven years of age, sft. llin. high, medium build, dark hair, small dark moustache only, long narrow features, two middle finsers of left hand amputated. Photograph at Inspector’s office, Napier. He is said to be accompanied by a Mrs. Grant, about thirty-three years of age, medium build and height; very stylish dress. They are supposed to have left for Wanganui and Auckland en route to Melbourne.
Wellington. —James McLean is charged on warrant of arrest, issued on the 24th ultimo, with failing to provide for the support of his unborn illegitimate child. Description: A native of the colony, twenty-three or twenty-four years of age, about sft. 9in. high, medium build, dark complexion, grey eyes, clean-shaved except slight dark moustache; has been employed building bridges, wharves, or similar structures, is a prominent footballer, and was one of the last Wellington representatives. Has a sister (Mrs. Flay) at Makuri, and a brother (Neill McLean), a bushman, in the Auckland District. Complainant, Hannah Mason, care of Robert Mason, cab-proprietor, Cuba Street.
