Arson.

Reefton. About 2.45 am. on the 18th ultimo the Albion Hotel, owned by Stewart Monteith, brewer, was destroyed by fire, which there is reason to believe was wilfully caused. The building was insured in the Norwich Union Office for £3OO, but on account of its age was not considered worth much more than half that amount, although the owner valued it at £450. An open verdict was returned at the inquest, with the following rider added : “ The jurors are unanimous in their opinion that the evidence of the witness John Arnold is very unsatisfactory.”
