Escaped Prisoner.
Ashburton. —Robert Carlyle is charged on warrant with escaping from the Ashburton Police Gaol on the 20th ultimo. Description : Scotch, thirty-nine years of age, sft. Sin. high, stoutish build, large head, fresh complexion, small grey eyes half closed, stammers, brown hair, curly reddish beard whiskers and moustache, silly appearance, especially noticeable when smiling; dressed in an olcl black coat and vest much too large for him, faded drab-tweed trousers, and soft black-felt hat. Photographed at Lyttelton Gaol, 21st August, 1890. (See “Prisoners discharged,” in this Gazette.) He was under remand on a charge of housebreaking and theft. Is said to have been seen at Hinds on the day he escaped.
