It is hereby notified for general information and guidance that officers of the Forco in charge at racing- and trottingclub meetings must (unless the police have been notified by the Colonial Secretary’s Department that a permit has been granted) demand to see the permit, and, if it is not produced, the parties violating the law should be proceeded against. Travelling by Government Railways. (Circular No. 6/95.) It has been decided that in future police officers travelling on duty (and prisoners in their charge) will be charged single fares for the double journey on all Government railways. Constable J. J. Cassells, No. 677, Wellington police, has been awarded £2 from the reward fund for zeal and promptitude in arresting Jeremiah Dunn for housebreaking. (95/388.) Tiie following amounts have been awarded for obtaining convictions for sly grog-selling in the Glutha District: Constables C. R. Broberg, No. 689, and J. Ferguson, No. 691, Dunedin police, £lO each ; and Acting-Constables P. S. Hay and C. B. King, Permanent Artillery, £9 each. (95/411.) Constables J. Mclntyre, No. 452, and J. Cooney, No. 560, Dunedin police, have been awarded £2 each from the reward fund for services in arresting and obtaining the conviction of W. Dunsliea and James McLaren for breaking and entering, &c. (95/391.) Constable J. J. Tuohy, No. 9, Feilding police, has been awarded £3 from the reward fund for arresting Joseph Mason and James Studdon on several charges of burglary, &c. (95/386.) Constable W. M. Jones, No. 631, Auckland police, has been awarded £3 for arresting an absentee from H.M.S. “ Katoomba.” (95/397.) Constable J. T. Wainhouse, Auckland police, has been awarded £3 for arresting a straggler from H.M.S. “Orlando.” (95/397.) Sergeant A. J. Mitchell, No. 284, Hastings police, has been awarded £3 from the reward fund for zeal and energy displayed in the prosecution of J. M. Foggon, J. Studdon, J. Russell, and J. Thompson, who were convicted and sentenced, at the Supreme Court, Napier, to various terms of imprisonment with hard labour. (95/284.) Constable P. McGrath, No. 505, Nelson police, has been awarded £3 from the reward fund for arresting James Breen, an escapee from Nelson Gaol. (95/455.)
