Mauton. —William Wilson is charged on warrant with having, on the 24th ultimo, assaulted ltobert Hunt, licensee of the Marton Hotel. Offender is a native of Liverpool, England, about thirty years of ago, sft. Sin. high, stout build, large mouth, pug nose, light-brown hair, reddish moustache only ; dressed in a new brown-check tweed suit; carried a swag containing a tent, one blue and one white blanket, and a set of boxing-gloves. He was working on the road at Makirikiri, and left during the night of tho 25th ultimo.

Auckland.— Frederick Newton is charged with failing to pay a fine of Is. and costs 11s., inflicted on the 16th October last, for committing a breach of the city by-laws. Description : About twenty years of age, sft. Bin. or 9in. high, fresh complexion, fair hair and moustache, brown eyes, impediment in speech ; dressed in dark clothes and soft dark-felt hat. Is well known in Wellington, where he was employed as a tram-driver. Warrant of distress issued, and information as to his whereabouts requested.

(See Police Gazette, 1894, page 155.) Wellington. —James Armstrong, charged with wilfully damaging the property of and behaving in a threatening manner to Ah Lung, has been arrested by Constable W. IT. McKinnon, Upper Hutt police, and discharged.

Wellington. —Agnes llamsay, for default of fine and costs for keeping a brothel, has been arrested in Dunedin by Constable D. Latimer, and sent to the gaol there.

Dunedin. —William Edward Hanlon is charged on warrant with uttering counterfeit revenue stamps of the United Kingdom on the 29th July, 1893. Description: Thirty-five years of age, born in Victoria, about sft. Tin. high, medium build, inclined to be round-shouldered, dark hair turning grey, clean-shaved except dark moustache, sallow complexion, rather full-faced; wore a dark coat and vest, lightcoloured trousers, and hard black hat. His father is an ex-sergeant of the Dunedin police. Offender was committed for trial at the Supreme Court on the 3rd instant for the above offence, but absconded from his bail. The Grand Jury brought in a true bill of indictment against him.

Invercargill. —W. Sinclair is charged on warrant with false pretences on William Couling, publican, Clifton, during the months of September, October, and November last. Description: Scotch, about forty-five years of age, sft. Tin. high, medium build, short dark beard whiskers and moustache (turning grey), partly bald on top of head, sallow complexion, bridge of nose injured and slightly flat; wore a dark sacsuit; and hard black-felt hat. Offender obtained board and lodging to tho value of £2l 55., and £1 in cash, on the representation that he had an account in a bank jointly with his wife, and was waiting for the latter to arrive from Wellington, when he would draw on it; his statement is, however, supposed to be false. He left for Lumsden on tbe 24th ultimo, and is supposed to have gone thence to Christchurch. Is said to have been at one time a station-manager for a bank there. This is a private prosecution.

Timaru. —Herbert A. Philips is charged on warrant with the theft as a bailee, at Fairlie, on the 18th instant, of a saddle and bridle, value £6 10s.; the property of Andrew McKenzie Davidson, livery-stable keeper, Timaru. Offender is a native of the colony, about thirty years of age, sft. 9in. high, medium build, dark complexion and hair, shaved except small dark moustache, rather prominent nose, small dark eyes, Jewish appearance, good address; usually wears a grey-tweed suit, tan shoes, and hard black-felt hat. Has been canvassing for the Government Life Insurance Office at Timaru. Is said to be a son of the Town Clerk, Auckland ; has a brother in business on Lambton Quay, Wellington ; and is known to Dr. Brownlee, of Christchurch. Has gone north,
