Auckland. John Robinson, Inspector of Slaughterhouses, reports stolen from the City Abattoirs, during the night of the 16th instant, an English hogskin saddle, halfworn, nickel-silver stirrups, web girth, stamped “ Lester ” or “ Leslie,” and a similar name believed to be on saddle ; felt saddlecloth, and martingale : value, £4 10s.
Auckland. —James McNair, farmer, Richmond, reports stolen from his stable, between the 2nd and Bth instant, a set of trap harness, minus reins, half-worn; value, £2 10s.
Inglewood (Taranaki). —Remeh, a pedlar, reports that on the Ist or 2nd instant a case of his goods was stolen from the Waipuku Railway Flag-station. It was found broken open on the 9th instant about 200 yards away, and the following articles abstracted therefrom —viz : Twenty white Chinese silk handkerchiefs, five coloured ditto, three dozen bottles of scent, five brass guards, large links; a pearlhandled knife (pendant), five ladies’ silver watch chains, three cards of brass shirt-studs, white stone and fox-head setting; five silver-mounted wooden pipes, three ink-pencils, two pairs of men’s braces, a penholder, and two metallic pencils : value, £l6 12s. 9d. Suspicion attached to William Henry Goodisson, a native of Christchurch, New Zealand, twenty-seven years of age, medium build, sft. 9in. high, fair complexion, hair, whiskers, and moustache, grey eyes; an athlete; has several silver medals, won at running contests. Lives in the district.
Ashurst.— The Railway Commissioners report stolen from the shed on the 29th ultimo, a box, marked RK over A, containing 221 b. of tobacco; value, £5 7s. 3d. About 151 b. of the tobacco has since been found near the station.
Otaki. —William Lawrence, sawmiller, Oliau, reports stolen from off his horse on the 31st ultimo, a canvas cover, lined with flannel, 9ft. long, stamped L over 5 on each side ; i'
and a pair of leather blinkers, with green-hide nose-piece, and straight iron bit; value, £1 9s.
Otaki. —John Kebbell, sheep-farmer, Ohau, reports stolen from the Ohau Railway Flag-station, between the sth and 7th instant, a 221 b. box of Juno tobacco, marked JK ; value, £5 11s. lOd.
Wellington. —Charles Edward Luxford, butcher, Riddiford Street, reports stolen from off his horse on the Bth or 9th instant, a canvas cover, lined with flannel, marked CL No. 1 in ink outside ; value, 18s.
Christchurch. —George Hempton, cab-driver, New Brighton Road, reports stolen from off a clothes-line on the sth or 6th instant, eight women’s Forfar aprons, some with
bibs, partly hand-sewn, four or five blue stripes' at bottoms ; two common towels ; a small unbleached damask table-cloth; and a new pair of women’s drawers : value, 16s. 6d.
Waimate (Canterbury). —Arthur Inkster, Queen Street, reports stolen from bis shop on the 30th ultimo or Ist instant, a 221 b. box of Juno tobacco, value £6; and a No. 1 Antona razor, in case, value 7s.
Dunedin. —The Railway Commissioners report stolen in transit from Dunedin to Lawrence, between the 28th and 30th ultimo, two cases of “ Lawson’s Liqueur Whiskey,” marked L.L.W., Z., and AB over C.
Dunedin. —David Nicol, Campbell Street, reports stolen from the Young Men’s Mission Rooms, Princes Street, on the Bth instant, a brown-check overcoat, with cape ; value, £3.
Dunedin. —William Simpson, Princes Street, reports stolen from the Young Men’s Mission Rooms, on the Bth instant, a very dark-brown-check waterproof overcoat, had a glove in each pocket; value, £2 15s.
Dunedin. —David Swan, storekeeper, Parkside, Caversham, reports stolen from his shop on the 6th or 7th instant, a till-drawer containing a wooden cash-box about 12in. by 2in., about £2 in silver and coppers, and sundry papers. Drawer and papers since found on the main road.
Mosgiel. —Arthur Poole, blacksmith, Riccarton, reports stolen from his shop on the 25th ultimo, an eight-day clock, octagonal shape ; value, £1 15s. Suspicion attached to two men, names unknown. Description: First, twenty-two years of age, sft. Bin. high, medium built; carried a red leather portmanteau. Second, about sixteen years of age, sft. 4in. or sin. high, medium build; carried a small glazed handbag. Supposed to have gone towards Dunedin.
