Murder.
South Australia. —A man, supposed name Brown, is charged on warrant with the murder of George Marisky, at Wankaringa, about the 20th April, 1894. Description: Irish, has been a soldier in South Africa, also a ship’s steward, about thirty-two years of age, looks younger, sft. lOin. high, light complexion, light moustache only, long features, long neck, several front teeth projecting, pointed chin ; was wearing a brownish coat, greyish trousers, and old soft-felt hat; looked like a prospector. Has letters of recommendation purporting to be from the Princess May, the Duke of Teck, and one from Sir Evelyn Wood during the war in South Africa, also has a testimonial to secure him a position as ship’s steward ; these letters are all much worn, and patched with postage-stamp edging. He came from Broken Hill to Wankaringa, and was last seen at Dawson, where he disposed of one of Marisky’s horses, and was seen riding the other way. This was about the 3rd instant.
Colchester (England).—£so Reward.— Arthur Blatch (may assume the name of “Jackson”) is charged on warrant with the murder of Alfred Welch, at Colchester, on the Bth December, 1893. Description: About thirty-six years of age, sft. Bin. or 9in. high, pale complexion, small dark eyes, darkbrown lpoustache (may now be shaven), thin face, hollow cheeks, thin build, cartilage of throat, or “ Adam’s apple ” very prominent, is a great smoker, and teeth are discoloured, has suffered from an injury to the spine, and frequently stoops a little when walking, left foot was sprained some years ago, and it occasionally causes slight lameness; is fond of bagatelle and fishing; when seen on the following
day was wearing a new black covert coat with velvet collar, black-and-white-mixture suit, new lace boots, and black hard hat, “ Gardiner, Whitechapel,” inside. Has recently been ill, and may affect illness again. He was for several years in the employ of Mr. Welch as a porter, but for the last two years has worked as a potman, and travelled the country,j taking cheap photographs with a self-acting camera.
