It having been brought to the Commissioner’s notice that constables are sometimes unaware of offences beinge ecorded against them in their defaulter-sheets, it is notified fro general information and guidance that, in future, when fining, reprimanding, admonishing, or in any way punishing constables, Inspectors will carefully inform them whether such offences will be recorded or not. Rewards.

Constable A. Christie, Balclutha police, has been awarded £2 for obtaining a conviction against William Guest for sly grog-selling. (94/522.) Constable G. Fitzgerald, Lyttelton police, has been awarded £5 for services in obtaining a conviction against James Patterson, fined £SO and costs for sly grog-selling at Diamond Harbour. (94/530.) Chief Detective M. O’Connor, Christchurch police, has been awarded £1 by the Customs Department for services rendered in securing the conviction of Thomas Quill for smuggling cigars on the 30th March last. (94/395.) Constable J. Shearman, Wanganui police, has been awarded £6 for services in obtaining convictions against Thomas Wheeler for sly grog-selling at Karioi and Ohingaiti. (94/562.)

Constables W. Septon, Whangaroa; N. Scott, Aratapu; and C. Davy, Thames, have been awarded £2 each by the Auckland Acclimatisation Society for obtaining convictions under “ The Animals Protection Act, 1880.” (94/51G.) Sergeant A. Clarke and Constable W. Howell, Auckland police, have been awarded 10s. each for arresting a straggler from H.M.S. “ Tauranga.” (94/570.)
