Housebreaking, Stealing from the Person and from Dwellings.

Auckland. —James Wilkie, Liverpool Street, off Alexander Street, reports that on the 19th ultimo his dwelling was broken into, and about £24 in gold and silver stolen. Suspicion attached to a man, name unknown, who occupied part of the same tenement. Description : Supposed a labourer, forty years of age, sft. 2in. or 3in. high, stout build, florid complexion, short stubbly beard turning grey ; wore a soft grey-felt hat (sometimes with a puggaree), dark coat, and grey trousers.

Auckland. —Mrs. Mary Jane Henwood, of Mangare, reports stolen from her at the Devonport Ferry Office, Auckland, on the 25th ultimo, a red morocco-leather purse, two compartments, containing a£l note and 9s. in silver. Purse identifiable.

Auckland. —Mrs. Annie Spraggon, Howe Street, Newton, reports stolen from her on board the s.s. “ Wellington,” on the 28th ultimo, an old dark-brown-leather purse ; two gold brooches—one with a safety-pin and imitation of a bow-knot, the other bar pattern, 2in. long, set with two American gold dollars reversed ; a sovereign; four half-crowns; and three small silver coins tied together with string; total value, £3.

Auckland. —James Coe, gentleman, Shelly Beach Road, .Ponsonby, reports that on the 2nd instant his dwelling was broken into, and the following stolen : Two horse-shoe scarfpins (one set with seven diamonds); a ladies’ silver keyless double-cased hunting-watch, maker and number unknown ; and a square silver brooch, set with about a dozen small pearls: value, £IG 10s. Suspicion attached to two men, names unknown. Description : First, about twenty-five years of age, about sft. Bin. high, medium build, dark complexion, dark moustache only; wore a light-coloured softfelt hat. Second, twenty-eight to thirty years of age, about sft. 9in. high, medium build, dark complexion and moustache only; wore a dark-coloured dress or swallow-tailed coat, blue trousers with stripe, and dark bell-topper hat.

Auckland. —Hekiera Tuterangi reports stolen from a bedroom at the Clanricardo Boarding-house, Albert Street, on the 28th or 29th ultimo, a silver lover hunting-watch, very much worn, maker and number unknown, with an old silver guard, short links, attached; value, £3. Identification doubtful. Complainant’s address is, Kennedy’s Bay, Coromandel.

Auckland. —James William Hinton, manager for Kempthorne, Prosser, and Co., reports that on the Ist instant his dwelling at Eden Vale Road was broken into, and the following stolen: A gold brooch, centre raised and a ruby sot therein, a pearl at each end, and small gold knobs round the edge, value £4 155.; and two florins.

Auckland. —W. J. Napier, solicitor, Victoria Arcade, Queen Street, reports stolen from his office on the 3rd instant a pair of new brown-leather lace-up boots, redlcat’ner sock-lining under heels, liand-scwn, five oval holes in toe-caps, soles stitched with yellow flax; value £1 10s. Identifiable.

Onehunga. —Alicia Wayland reports stolen on the 27th ultimo a small breech-loading rook-rifle, value £1; an old carbine, a coat, and two old blankets; total value, £1 16s. Since recovered except the rifle. Suspicion attached to a youth who gave the name of William Robinson, and was employed by complainant for three weeks. Description : Nineteen years of age, sft. 7in. high, rather slight, brown hair, face somewhat sunburnt, one upper front tooth gone, remainder not close together ; walks with long strides, coming down on the heels ; dressed in a blue-serge coat and trousers, old dark-tweed vest, and old soft grey-felt hat.

Hawera. —W. A. Nairn, treasurer, Caledonian Society, reports lost or stolen from him during the sports on the Ist instant a bundle of about thirty-two £1 notes, all on the Bank of Australasia.

Wanganui. —John Ross, No. 1 Line, reports stolen from a bedroom at Mrs. Read’s boarding-house, during the night of the 22nd ultimo, a silver lever Waltham hunting-watch, No. 26727 ; value, £5. Suspicion attached to George Henry Ellhouse, a labourer, about forty-five years of ago, about sft. lOin. high, dark hair turning grey, dark complexion, moustache and goatee. Still in Wanganui. There is reason to suppose lie has sold the watch to some person unknown.

Woodville. —Edward Carr reports stolen from a room in the Central Hotel, on the 4th instant, a silver lever openfaced watch, glass broken, oponing-springgone ; and a twisted silver chain (three small and one long links): value, £4 10s. Suspicion attached to two young women, names unknown. Description: First, about twenty years of age, sft. 3in. or ,4in. high, stoutish build, fair hair and complexion, good-look-ing ; wore a salmon-coloured bodice, brown jacket with large buttons, small straw hat trimmed with cream-coloured ribbon, and tan shoes. Second, about the same age and height, fair hair and complexion ; dressed in a black skirt and jacket, and wideawake straw hat trimmed with pink roses. They arc supposed to be following race-meetings.

Palmerston North. —Josiali H. Prosser, Porirua, roporfcs stolen from a bedroom at the Albion Hotel, Palmerston North, during tho night of the 25th instant, five £5 notes. Levin. —John Prendergast, Heatherloa, reports that oh the 23rd ultimo his whare was broken into and the following stolen : A brown-tweed waterproof coat with cape, “Kaiapoi” or “ Mosgiel ”on tab, cloth buttons down front; a razor, marked “ Altonia,” and case for same : value, £2 ss.

Wellington. —Walter E. Hall, dentist, 103, Willis Street, reports stolen from his consulting-room, between tho 6th and 20th ultimo, a pair of opera-glasses, bound with black leather; value, £2.

Wellington. —Edwin James Hill, Oriental Bay, reports stolen from his dwelling, on the 2nd instant, a gold dollar, a threepenny-bit, a saloon ticket for s.s. “ Waihora,” in favour of Miss Mathias, and six sovereigns.

Wellington. —Joseph Zachariah, Willis Street, reports stolen from his dwelling, on the 29th ultimo, a silver cup, lOin. to 12in. high, supposed inscribed as having been won at the athletic sports, Blenheim; value, £3.

Dunedin. —Mrs. Alice Liggins, Leviathan Hotel, reports stolen from her at the railway-station, on the 30th ultimo, a new black-leather clasp-purse, containing a gold ring, set with two sapphires and two diamonds, value £8 10s.; and £4 10s. in gold.

Mosgiel. —David McCaughan, North Taieri, reports stolen from his hut, on the 22nd or 23rd ultimo, six £1 notes, £1 Is. in silver; and a small five-chambered revolver, about 4in. long, value £l. Case doubtful.

Greymouth. —George Hall reports stolen from tho Club Hotel, on the 24th ultimo, a silver lever hunting-watch, seconds hand broken off, makers Settle Brothers, London, number unknown, value £3 ; and a wooden pipe with new amber mouthpieco 4in. long, slightly curved, value £1 ss.

Brunnerton. —Clement Parfitt, Stillwater, reports that on the 22nd or 23rd ultimo his store was broken into, and the following stolen: 101 b. cheese, 121 b. French twist tobacco, one bottle Peerless Gloss, one ditto eucalypte extract, one ditto Irish moss, one tin egg-powder, four dozen matches, a double-bladed pocket-knife, several small tins of pepper, and a pair of tweed trousers, check pattern with pink spots ; value, £5 9s. sd.
