(From Gazette, 1892, pages 1022, 1069, and 1070.) Extending Time for Shooting Native Game, Canterbury.

GLASGOW, Governor. WHEREAS by a warrant made under “ The Animals Protection Act, 1880,” dated the seventh day of March,

one thousand eight hundred and ninety-two, and published in the Nciv Zealand Gazette of the tenth day of March, one thousand eight hundred and ninety-two, it is, amongst other things, notified that native game, with certain exceptions, may be taken or killed in the North Canterbury District from the first day of April, one thousand eight hundred and ninetytwo, to the thirtieth day of June, one thousand eight hundred and ninety-two : And whereas it is expedient to extend the time during which the said native game may be taken or killed in the aforesaid district:

Now, therefore, I, David, Earl of Glasgow, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, in exercise of the powers vested in me by the said “ Animals Protection Act, 1880,” do hereby declare that native game, excepting tui, huia, white heron, and crested grebe, may be taken or killed in the aforesaid North Canterbury District, consisting of the Counties of Cheviot, Ashley, Akaroa, and Selwyn, until the thirty-first day of July, one thousand eight hundred and ninety-two. As witness the hand of His Excellency the Governor, this fourth day of July, one thousand eight hundred and ninety-two. P. A. BUCKLEY, Colonial Secretary.

Land temporarily reserved. THE following land has been temporarily reserved from sale, and set apart for police purposes : All that parcel of land in the Auckland Land District, being Allotments Nos. 153, 154, 155, 156, and 157 of Section No. 2 of the Town of Opotiki, and containing by admeasurement 5 acres, more or less. Bounded towards the north by a public road, 1000 links ; towards the east by St. John Street, 500 links ; towards the south by Ford Street, 1000 links ; and towards the west by Church Street, 500 links, to the point of commencement: be all the aforesaid linkages more or less.

IN pursuance and exercise of the power and authority vested in me by “ The Animals Protection Act, 1880,” I, David, Earl of Glasgow, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, do hereby notify and declare that the imported birds known as black swans ( Cygnus atratus) are established in the Canterbury Acclimatisation District, consisting of the Counties of Cheviot, Ashley, Akaroa, and Selwyn, and to be considered as native game. And I also declare that this notification shall take effect from and after the date hereof. As witness the hand of His Excellency the Governor, this nineteenth day of July, one thousand eight hundred and ninety-two. P. A. BUCKLEY.
