Arson.
Hawera. —Thomas Henry Blackwell is charged on warrant with having, on the IOMi November last, wilfully set fire to a four-roomed cotffigefat Normanby, the property of Felix Hungar. DeserintuMv Supposed a native of Wales, about forty-seven age, st£3in. high, heavy build, black beard and in(h|u£fea/he, florid complexion, downcast \4o\4/ (Spe Police Gazette , 1892, page 37.) ffcndor king/on the Rotokere Road, near Eltham, up tq/abo/Ut the 21sl March last, but has not been there since, /supposed to have gone in the direction of Wellington.
Winton. —Jacob Falska, Fern Hill, reports that, about 5 a.m. on the 4th ultimo, a stack of wheat, value £l7 10s., was destroyed by fire ; and at an inquest, held on the 13th, a verdict was returned to the effect that the said stack was set on fire by some person or persons unknown. Uninsured. Suspicion attached to Samuel Payne, residing in the locality.
Arrowtown. —John McMaster reports that, on the 2nd or 3rd March last, his threshing-mill was destroyed by fire at Arrow Junction; and at an inquest, held on the 19th ultimo, a verdict was returned to the effect that the said fire was wilfully caused by some person or persons unknown. The mill was valued at £IBO, and insured in the Royal Office for £IOO.
Rakaia. —Westcote McNab Lyttelton, Rokeby, reports that, on the 31st March last, a stack of wheat on his station was wilfully destroyed by fire ; and, on the 10th ultimo, another stack was destroyed in a similar manner; value £75. Uninsured. Suspicion attached to Alexander Kane, employed on John Irwin’s farm, Fairfield. Description: Irish, a labourer, about thirty years of age, sft. 7in. high, medium build, fresh complexion, brown hair, sandy beard whiskers and moustache. Is on bad terms with complainant.
