Arson.
About 10 p.m. on the 18th ultimo, at Awahuri, near Feilding, four stacks of wheat, the property of Edward Jackman, were destroyed by fire, which, it is supposed, was maliciously caused. Insured for £75 in the Standard Office. A man, of whom no description can be given, was seen riding at a gallop from the vicinity.
At about 2 a.m. on the 24th ultimo, at Srnithfield, near Temuka, Canterbury, a stack of barley, belonging to Robert Matthews, and valued at £4O, was maliciously destroyed by fire, with the further intention, it is supposed, of destroying a threshing-machine alongside. The latter is owned by William Smith and Charles Stickings, and was damaged to the extent of about £BO.
