Deserting Wives and Families, &c.
William Norman is charged, on warrant issued by the - Auckland Bench, with disobeying a summons to appear at the Police Court, Auckland, on the 19th ultimo, to answer a charge of keeping a house of ill-fame. Description : Supposed English, a labourer, about forty years of age, sft. 7in. or Sin. high, medium build, sallow complexion, light-brown hair, full sandy beard whiskers and moustache. Identifiable. He was last seen proceeding in the direction of Helensville, with a swag on his back, on the 14th ultimo, when he said he was going to work on the gum-fields in that district.
(See Police Gazette, 1890, page 241, and 1891, pages 4 and 13.) Christian Hansen, charged with deserting his wife at Blenheim, has been arrested by Sergeant P. Shirley, Clyde Police, and remanded.
John Sullivan is charged, on warrant issued by the Ophir Bench, with having deserted his wife and two children, at Ophir, since about the 20tli April last. Description: A native of Ireland, but brought up in London, a stonemason, sailor, and general handy-man, thirty-two } r ears of age, sft. 7in. high, medium build, sallow complexion, blue eyes, Roman nose, red birth-mark on one eyelid, brown hair, clean-shaved except brown moustache, “ Cate ” tattooed on one arm, and bracelet on each wrist. He was seen in Dunedin about the end of the abovp month, but may have left the colony.
Thomas Hamilton, who gave the name of John Kemp, is charged on warrant with failing to appear at the Resident Magistrate’s Court, Helensville, on the 23rd ultimo, to answarf/qkarge of procuring liquor for one JohnThackabury, nv Grohiliifed person. Description: A native of the colony, about pventy-eight years of age, about sft. lOin. high, medium build, brown hair, light-sandy moustache and imperial, thin features; dressed in liglit-grey-tweed suit, much worn, and white slouch hat.
John Skelton is charged, on warrent issued by the Lyttel;Mnch, with deserting his W’ife, at Lyttelton, since the ugust last. Description : English, a master-mariner, seven vears/pf age, sft. 7in. high, medium build, dark comjji-lesi orA dar k cimy hair, hazel eyes, small features, on left arm (see Police Gazette, 1891, page 14). - Ho/joft'Lytriton in June, 1890, in the schooner “ Alert,” for Wanganui, and transhipped there to the “ St. Kilda,” for Rfockhampton, Queensland. Is said to have been seen recently at Gisborne. Plis wife and two children are destitute.
