Stealing Otherwise than from the Person or from Dwellings.

Stolen between 6 p.m. on the 11th and 9 a.m. on the 14th ultimo, from the Victoria Wharf, Devonport, Auckland, a bag of oats, branded JMcK over NS; value 125.; the property of John Budge. Identification doubtful.

Stolen between 4.15 and 5 p.m. on the 22nd September last, from the Grasmere Railway-station, near Invercargill, a parcel containing two white-cotton nightshirts, marked “T. J. Bell ”on front right-hand corner; a grey-woollen singlet, marked T.B. in red wool below the opening; four or five coloured cotton shirt-collars, marked “ T. J. Bell ” on the front; four or five pairs of fine grey and brown socks, nearly new, marked T; and several handkerchiefs, mostly marked “ T. J. Bell,” or initialed ; value in all £2 ; the property of Thomas James Bell, Gore. Identifiable.

(See Police Gazette, 1890, page 161.) The dray-wheel, belonging to Robert Stewart, Coal Creek Flat, Greymouth, has been found; not stolen.

Stolen between 8.30 and 11 p.m. on the 11th ultimo, from a trap in the auction-yard of Mr. Thomas, Ashburton, a box of tea, lib. of tobacco, 21b. of candles, and a bottle of sauce ; total value £1 75.; the property of George Cox.

Stolen during the night of the 11th ultimo, from the stable of William Beamish, Okawa, near Omahu, Napier, an old pigskin saddle, flaps repaired by insertion of large triangular pieces, lower end of off-side knee-pad worn through, new girth-strap on near side, two web girths (one white, the other red and white), stirrup-leathers numbered at holes, and one of them nearly worn through at No. 7, large size nickel-silver three-bar stirrups ; value £3. Identifiable.

Stolen on the 14th ultimo, from an outhouse adjoining the premises of John William Freeman, Mars Hill, No. 2 Line, near Wanganui, a flannel undershirt, value 75.; and a Crimean shirt, value 12s. Gd. Identification doubtful. Suspicion attached to a man, name unknown, who was seen in the vicinity. Description: Supposed a Dane, looks like a tramp, fifty to sixty years of age, bow-legged, sft. sin. high, beard whiskers and moustache cut short, dirty appearance. Identifiable. Supposed gone to Fordell.

Stolen on the 22nd or 23rd ultimo, from the outhouse of William Johns, Mitchelltown, Wellington, fourteen ducks, Aylesbury breed; value £l. Identifiable. Suspicion attached to a man, named Anderson, living in the locality.

(See Police Gazette, 1890, page 187.) Stealing from the premises of E. J. A. Stevenson, Murphy Street, Wellington: Andrew W. Williams has been summoned for this offence by Constable James Black, Wellington Police, and committed to the Burnham Industrial School.

(Sec Police Gazette, 1890, page 177.) Henry Brown’s timber-jack, reported stolen at Inglewood, has been recovered ; not stolen.

Thomas Wilkes is charged, on warrant issued by the Invercargill Bench, with having, between the 15th May last and the 2nd ultimo, stolen, from a wire line on an open section, at Mill Road, near Invercargill, three sheepskins (which have been recovered); value 7s. 6d. ; the property of Alexander Darling. Description: English, a labourer and bul-lock-driver, twenty-two years of age, sft. 9in. or lOin. high, medium build, stoops slightly, fresh complexion, fair hair, very small fair moustache only ; dressed in dark sac-suit and black soft-felt hat; larrikin appearance. Identifiable. Last seen at Invercargill on the sth ultimo, and is supposed to have gone to Timaru, where his married sister (whose name and address are at present unknown) resides.

Stolen between 7 and 8 p.m. on the 22nd ultimo, from the cabin of the schooner “ Waireka,” at the railway-wharf, Auckland, an ordinary round-faced metal clock, and an old blue-cloth overcoat, patched ; value 10s. ; the property of Andrew McClymont, master. Identifiable.

Stolen within the last three months, from an open shed at Okaiawa, Taranaki District, a ladies’ saddle, well worn, seat and flaps stitched crossways, horn for knee broken, part of pommel repaired with a piece of oil-cloth, common iron stirrups, leathers broken ; value £1 10s. ; the property of Robert Clement. Identifiable. Maoris suspected.

Stolen between the 6th and 9th ultimo, from Taylor’s boatsheds, Clyde Quay, Wellington, a silver open-faced English lever watch, maker Middlemas, Burntisland, number not known, silver curb-chain and compass attached; value £6 ; the property of George Hogg. Identifiable.

Stolen between the 12ch and 19th ultimo, from a boat in the Wellington Harbour, a pair of ash oars, nearly new, 12ft. long, one of them has a bend in the blade, and the other a piece out of the handle and a knot in the wood where it works in the rowlock; value 145.; the property of Joshua Morris, bootmaker, Taranaki Street. Identifiable.

Stolen between G and 8 p.m. on the 3rd ultimo, from the racecourse, Alexandra South, a pair of jockeys’ white-doe-skin riding-pants ; value £1 10s.; the property of Geotge Mason, Ophir. Identifiable.
