L. A. Goldberg is charged, on warrant issued by the Ashburton Bench, with the larceny as a servant, at Ashburton, on the sth instant, of about £5 10s. in gold and silver, and a cheque on the Union Bank of Australia, Ashburton, dated the stli instant, No. M 3377, for £l 10s., drawn by J. C. Duncan; the property of Janies Charles Duncan. Description : English, a clerk, twenty-five years of age, sft. 7in. high, stout build, florid complexion, full face, small moustache ; generally wears a long dark double-breasted overcoat and light-coloured hard-felt hat with narrow brim; simple, unsophisticated appearance. Ho left the employment of Friedlander Brothers, Ashburton, on the 18th ultimo, and entered the employment of Mr. Duncan. He left Ashburton on the evening of the sth instant by the express-train for Lyttelton, taking the keys of the office-safe with him.

Stolen on or about the 2nd ultimo, at Inglewood, Taranaki, a 3-ton screw timber-jack, with HB burned on the side and back ; the property of Plenry Brown ; value £1 10s. Identifiable.

Stolen about 5 pm on the 11th instant, from near the door of the Railway Hotel, Thorndon Quay, Wellington, a small moleskin bag containing two pairs of ladies’ shoes, sizes 4 and 5, and a pair of men’s elastic-side boots, size 8, all new ; the property of Alfred Lindsay ; value £2 11s. 6d. Identifiable.

Stolen between the 10th and 23rd ultimo, from a shed in Abercrombie Street, Auckland, a roll of sheet lead, size Bft. long by 7ft. wide, about 2cvvt., 61b. to the square foot, and about lewt. of scrap lead; the property of Cleghorn and Rosser; value £3. Identification doubtful.

Stolen on the Bth or 9th instant, from a quarry at Woodhaugh, near Dunedin, a cast-iron steel drill, sft. Sin. long ; two iron cleaners, one over 6ft. long, and the other 4ft. or sft. long; a striking-hammer, branded PM in circle ; and a tamp-ing-iron bar, between 4ft. and sft. long, a groove down side ; the property of James Murphy ; value £1 2s. Hammer and tamping-iron identifiable.

Stolen between the 20th ultimo and the 6tli instant, from the stable of George Mcßride, Benfield, Mount Albert, near Auckland, a pair of blinkers with silver bit, a leather horse-collar, a pair of silver-plated liames with leather traces attached, a new piece of leather on the end of one of the traces, buggy pony harness ; value £2 10s. Identifiable.

Stolen on the Ist instant, from the cart of Josiali D. Webster, Queen-street, Auckland, a cart-whip, white wooden handle witli diamonds painted black all the way up, kangarooleather thong 34ft. long; value ss. Identifiable.

Stolen on the night of the 13th instant, from the premises of Alfred Perry, Wickliffe Terrace, Port Chalmers, ten fowls of various colours and breeds, amongst them being a plushcoloured bantam cock, and a brownish-grey bantam hen; value 12s. 6d. Identification doubtful.

Stolen between 4 p.m. of the 11th and 9 a.m. of the 12th instant, from the school at Denniston, the sum of 2s. 6d. Suspicion attached to Warner Ellis, about fourteen years of ago, sft. high, dark complexion, brown hair, residing at Denniston.

Stolen during the night of the 11th instant, off a tree in the paddock of John Black, Chelmer Street, Oamaru, an old scythe-handle, much worn, blade secured to handle with a piece of hoop-iron which is nailed to the wood ; value Bs. Identifiable.

Stolen between 9 p.m. on the 14th and 7 a.m. on the 15th instant, from the stable of the Britannia Hotel, Christchurch, a steeple-chase riding-saddle, all pigskin, nearly new, with steel stirrup-irons a little rustj% value £6; a common leather breast-plate, value 10s.; and a light leather head-stall with only one buclde, value £l. All identifiable.

Between 6 p.m. on the 10th and 7 a.m. on the 11th instant the clothing factory of Messrs. Meers and Co., Tuam Street, Christchurch, was broken into, and about 15s. in silver and ss. in coppers stolen.

Stolen at 1.30 p.m. on the 18th instant, from the person of Annie O’Driscoll, seven years of age, on the road near the Southern Cemetery, Dunedin, by a woman whose name is unknown, a dolman jacket made of yellow- and brown-check tweed to fit a girl of seven or eight years old, dark-metal buttons, nearly new ; value 6s. Identifiable. Description of the woman : Middle age, medium size, red or fair hair; dressed in long black jacket and high-crown black hat. Identifiable.

Between 5 p.m. on the 9tli and 8 p.m. on the 10tli instant the office of John Campbell, coal merchant, Thackeray Street, Sydenham, Christchurch, was broken into, and a sixpence and cheque for £1 2s. 6d. on the Bank of New Zealand, Christchurch, stolen. The cheque (which was not missed until the 12th) was cashed on the 10th instant, at 10 a.m., at the Foresters’ Arms Hotel, by a man who paid for two drinks and received £1 2s. change. Description : Twentytwo years of age, sft. 4in. or Sin. high, medium build, sallow complexion, dark hair, and incipient moustache; dress not known. Identifiable.

Stolen on the sth instant, at about 4.30 p.m., from a safe in the office of Thomas Turner, seedsman, Colombo Street, Christchurch, a brown-leather pocketbook with elastic band, containing about £4O in notes, gold, and silver; one £5 note, bank and number not known; a cheque on the Bank of Now Zealand, Christchurch, dated the 2nd instant, for £l, drawn by John Aldred in favour of self; and another supposed to be on the Union Bank of Australia, Christchurch, for £1 18s., payable to Thomas Brownlee, of Coalgate, drawer unknown. Cheques and pocketbook identifiable. Suspicion attached to a man who was seen coming out of the office which is at the end of the counter. Description: About sft. 9in. high, between thirty and thirty-five years of age, slight build, dark complexion, small side whiskers and moustache, thin pale face; wore dark soft-felt hat and black paget-coat. Identification doubtful.
