Horse- and Cattle-Stealing.

James Spencer, alias George White, alias Clifford, alias Ross, charged on warrant with the larceny as a bailee of a horse, saddle, and bridle, at Timaru, the property of John Shaw, has been arrested by Detective Robert Neill and Constable Walter H. Haddrell, Christchurch and Malvern Police, remanded to Timaru, and committed for trial.

The three working-bullocks, the property of Stephen Martin, reported stolen from Te Pu, have been recovered ; they were not stolen.

The mare, the property of Augustin J. C. Ward, supposed stolen from Blenheim, has been recovered; she was not stolen.
Stolen on the 14th May last, from Maketu, six heiferand two bull-calves, eight or nine months old, one of the bullock-calves is red and white with a white stripe across shoulders from near to off side, unbranded ; the property of Thomas Heath; value £6 Also two bull-calves, eight or nine months old, one red and white with a white tip about 3in. long on tail, unbranded ; the property of John T. Stenbridge ; value £1 10s. Identifiable.
(See Police Gazette, 1890, pages 65, 79, and 90.) The mare, the property of William Brown, supposed stolen from Hastings, has been found straying.
Stolen on the 14th ultimo, from the yard of Joseph Taylor, Ashburton, an iron-grey mare, three years old, about 14 hands high, branded 69 under saddle ; value £6. Identifiable. Suspicion attached to Thomas Kane, Irish, came to the colony when a child, a labourer, about nineteen years of age, sft. Sin. high, medium build, fresh complexion, blue eyes, light-brown hair, no hair on face; dressed in grey-tweed suit, light-coloured soft-felt hat, and blucher-boots. His parents live in Ashburton.
Supposed stolen about the 15th May last, from Nenthorn, a dark-brown mare, hack-breed, five years old, about 14J hands high, large blaze down face, branded J on near shoulder ; the property of John Kennelly ; value £l2. Identifiable.
