Deserting Wives and Families, &c.
Henry Jones and William Hart are charged on warrants of commitment to Wellington Gaol for seven days’ labour each, issued by the Blenheim Bench, in default of paying ss. fine and 7s. 6d. costs each for a breach of the Blenheim Borough by-laws in loitering and obstructing a thoroughfare. Descriptions : Jones is a native of Waitara, a carpenter, twenty-seven years of age, sft. lOin. high, slight build, fresh complexion, prominent teeth, brown hair, and light moustache, female bust tattooed on right arm ; dressed in blue coat and vest, plaid trousers, and hard-felt hat. Hart is a butcher, twenty-five years of age, sft. 6in. high, medium build, fair hair moustache and side whiskers ; dressed in blue-serge suit and blue-serge hat. They left Blenheim on the 15th ultimo by the steamer “ Neptune” for Wellington, and may go thence to Waitara.

Henry Mays, charged on warrant of commitment to gaol for fourteen days’ labour in default of paying £2 11s. fine and costs for illegally taking rock-oysters, has been arrested by Constable Edward Mackay, Auckland Police.
William Collins is charged, on warrant issued by the Wellington Bench, with leaving his wife and five children, at Wellington, without means, of support since the 13th March last. Description: English, a carpenter and contractor, forty-eight years of age, about sft. 7in. high, stout build, fair complexion, blue eyes, auburn hair, full sandy beard whiskers and moustache, mole on bridge of nose, and a mark of abscess on centre of forehead a little above eye-, brows, addicted to drink. He is supposed to be in the Foxton or Manawatu districts. His wife and children are in very destitute circumstances.
