Missing Friends.
Information is requested respecting Thomas Coote Grant, inquired for by his sister, Jane Ooote Grant, 15, Vincent View, College Road, Cork. Miss Grant says in her letter that a report was circulated in Cork to the effect that a gentleman named Grant and his housekeeper were murdered in this colony, and she fears it may be her brother, whom she has not heard from for over three years. No such crime has been committed in this colony.
Information is requested respecting Daniel Wilson, a member of the Marlborough Hussars, who left that district without returning the arms, accoutrements, and uniform issued to him. He may be employed at a flax-mill at Otaki, Foxton, or Manawatu.
Information is requested respecting Thomas Cleghorn, a native of England, a saddler, about forty years of age, about sft. Gin. or 7in. high, fresh complexion, sandy hair beard whiskers and moustache. He is well known in South Canterbury and in the Maniototo District, where he travels with a small trap covered with calico, and a bay pony which is lame in fore legs. He wrote to his wife from Waitaki North on the Bth ultimo. He is inquired for so that he may be proceeded against for disobeying an order to contribute towards the support of his wife and three children.
Information is requested respecting Joseph Vincent, a native of Cornwall, a labourer and rabbiter, thirty years of age, sft. 4in. high, fresh complexion, stout build, very fair hair, generally clean-shaved except very fair moustache. (See Police Gazette, 1886, page 228.) He is inquired for so that he may be proceeded against for disobeying an order to pay 7s. 6d. per week towards the support of his three children in the Burnham Industrial School. He is now about £lB in arrears. He was in Oamaru in April last.
(See Police Gazette, 1888, page 231.) Gregor McGregor has been found. He is employed at Mr. Robinson’s station, Cheviot Hills, Cheviot, Amuri.
Special inquiry is requested to be made for John Henry Phillips, the principal witness in the case of Regina v. Ansley, for trial at the Supreme Court, Christchurch, on the 7th instant, for robbery from the person. Description: A native of England, a station-hand, thirty years of age, sft. Bin. high, medium build, dark complexion, black hair beard whiskers and moustache; wore dark clothes. He was in Christchurch on the Ist ultimo, and when leaving there said he was going to work at Longbeach, near Ashburton, but he did not go there. He may have gone to the Clarence Station, Marlborough, where he had been employed.
Special inquiry is requested to be made for James Bunting, the principal witness in the case of Regina v. Morgan and Lewis, for trial at the Supreme Court, Oamaru, on the 12th March next, for assault and robbery. Description: A native of Ireland, a labourer, thirty-seven years of age, sft. sin. high, fresh complexion, grey eyes, brown hair, and brownish beard whiskers and moustache ; fond of drink. He left Oamaru on the 20th September last, going South in search of employment. He arrived at Port Chalmers by the ship “ Oamaru ” in 1874.
