Inquest.
An inquest was held on the 26th December last, at the Golden Fleece Hotel, Ilawkcsbury, by E. H. Carew, Esq., Coroner, on the body of a man, name unknown, found hanging by the neck from a tree, in a gully at Merton, on the 24th of the same month. Verdict: “ Suicide by hanging.” Description of deceased: About forty years old, sft. llin. high, medium build, brown hair, sandy beard whiskers and moustache turning grey; dressed in brown-tweed trousers and vest, and lace-up boots. A coat of similar material to the trousers and vest, a black soft felt hat, a blue single blanket, twelve photographs, a pair of moleskin trousers, a singlet, a pair of drawers, two Crimean shirts, a towel, four pairs of socks, five cotton handkerchiefs, a tweed hat, four neckties, a linen collar, a pocketbook, two purses, a Testament, a pair of spectacles in wooden-case, a knife, two combs, a pair of scissors, a looking-glass, four pipes, a nailbrush, and several other articles were found at the place where deceased had apparently been sleeping. From inquiries made deceased is supposed to be identical with James Cobban, a labourer.
