Extract from Tasmania Police Gazette.

(From Gazette , 1888, page 19.) (See Gazette, 1888, pages 2 and 4.) The following description of Gaston H. Newman is inserted for the information of the Intercolonial Police, as it is supposed that he left the colonies under an assumed name: Age about twenty-five years, sft. 7Jin. high, fair hair, blue eyes, nose rather long and aquiline with scar on bridge, fresh complexion, visage thin and long, small fair moustache, slim built, slight stoop in shoulders, speaks with a foreign accent especially when excited, a piano forte-tuner, a fair musician, a native of Canada, per ship “ Palmerstondress—generally wears a light fawn-coloured hard-felt hat, light-drab mixedtweed beaufort coat, white vest, light trousers, light-coloured tie, horse-shoe pin set with pearls, a quantity of jewellery, with blue enamelled half-crown pendant to watch-chain; plays a fair game of billiards, especially pool, rather fond of drink. Figured in the Newtown Police Court, New South Wales (see Sydney Morning Herald, 24th March, 1886), as complainant in an assault case, when he gave his name as Gustave do Walcherch, alias James Becker, a Belgian count.
