Stations closed. The police-stations at Waimea and Rimu, in the Westland District, have been closed.
Reward. The sum of £5 has been awarded by Mr. Meredith Kay, of Timaru, to Chief Detective Thomas Neil, Christchurch Police, for the recovery of a valuable gold breast-pin lost by him.
Further Particulars concerning James Harkins requested. A man, giving the name of James Harkins, who arrived in Queensland from this colony in 1885, and was sentenced on the 27th June last, at Brisbane, to seven years’ penal servitude for several larcenies committed in dwellings there, is thought to be an expert criminal from the manner in which the larcenies were committed ; and it is surmised may have been convicted in this colony under the name he goes by or under some other name. It is therefore requested that anything known of his previous history may be communicated to the Commissioner’s office. Description : A native of New Zealand, a labourer, twenty years of age, sft. Bin. high, lOst. weight, brown hair and eyes, no hair on face, cross tattooed on wrist, three dots on left arm, and ring on fourth finger of left hand, third finger of right hand slightly crooked, scar on left hand.
