Housebreaking, Stealing from the Person and from Dwellings.

Stolen between about the 20th ultimo and the 18th instant, from a whare at Island Bay, Wellington, a man’s medium-sized 15-carat gold ring, set with pink-coloured stone, shield shape, value £2; and a gold-mounted greenstone pendant, about 2Jin. long, broader at one end than the other, a gold band with buckle round the middle, there is a small flaw in the stone below the band, value £1; the property of John Frank. Identifiable. Suspicion attatched to a man only known as Peter, and a man name unknown, who occupied the whare with complainant. Description : First, is a Greek, a fisherman, about thirty years of age, about sft. lOin. high, stout build, fresh complexion, black hair, and fair moustache; second, is a Greek, a fisherman, about thirty years of age, sft. 4in. high, medium build, dark complexion, black hair, full black beard whiskers and moustache. They are supposed to be in Wellington.

Stolen on the 9th instant, from the person of William Booth, while drunk, at Palmerston North, an open-faced silver lever watch, makers Littlejohn and Sons, Wellington, No. 4186 ; and a silver curb-pattern chain, with bar-bit in centre and steel bar; value £lO ss. Identifiable

Stolen on the 9th instant, from a bedroom in the Leviathan Temperance Hotel, Dunedin, a yellow Gladstone bag, with E.H.D. on one side, containing a pair of blue- and greystriped trousers, a white shirt, four white handkerchiefs, two white collars, a pair of socks, a hair-brush and comb, a toothbrush, and a clothes-brush ; the property of Ernest Henry Darling ; value £4 4s. Identifiable.

Stolen on the 30th or 31st ultimo, from the dwelling of Martin Shea, Longridge, Southland District, a silver huntingwatch, maker Philip Cohen, London, No. 72998, main spring broken, glass missing, a small dent in back case, value £7 ; and a silver chain, about 2ft. long, very small curb-link pattern, value £l. Identifiable.

Stolen on the 27th ultimo, from a bedroom in the Adelaide Hotel, Hanover Street, Dunedin, a blue-striped cotton shirt, with turndown collar of same material, and a pair of darktweed trousers with very small red specks through material, not much worn ; the property of John Baird; value £1 7s. 6d. Identifiable. Suspicion attached to David O’Connor, Scotch, a labourer, about thirty-five years of age, sft. Gin. high, medium build, hair turning grey, about fourteen days’growth of beard ; dressed in old brown-tweed suit. He is supposed to be identical with Joseph Bonny, described in Police Gazette 1886, page 170.

Stolen between the 20th and 23rd ultimo, from the dwelling of Bernard McGowan, Fairlie Creek, Timaru District, a pair of nearly - new brown - tweed trousers, small check pattern; value £1 ss. Identifiable.

About the Bth instant an outhouse in Dowling Street, Dunedin, the property of the Dunedin City Corporation, was broken into, and a new bass broom with handle stolen ; value 6s. Identifiable.

On the 9th instant the dwelling of Thomas Robertson, Otepopo, Oamaru District, was broken into, and a silver lever hunting-watch, maker H. J. W. Ellis, King Street, Covent Garden, London, No. 6246, considerably worn, and about Is. in coppers, stolen. Watch identifiable.

Stolen on the 11th instant, at the Lancaster Park Pavilion, Christchurch, a £1 note, a half-sovereign, and about 10s. in silver; the property of W. D. Bean.

Stolen on the 19th instant, from the bar of the Royal Hotel, Tees Street, Oamaru, a black Japanese tin cash-box, about Bin. long, 4in. wide, and 3in. deep, containing two £1 notes and about £2 14s. in silver; the property of Alexander Johnston. Cash-box identifiable.
