Stealing Otherwise than from the Person or from Dwellings.

(See Police Gazette, 1887, page 53.) William Ramsay, charged on warrant with stealing fruit from the garden of Albert Newman, has been arrested by Sergeant Christopher Conn, Palmerston South Police, and remanded to Invercargill.

Stolen between 2 and 7 p.m. on the 12th instant, between Princes Street South and York Place, Dunedin, a cheque for £3 on the Bank of New South Wales, Dunedin, drawn by John Edmonds ; the property of William Fitzpatrick. The cheque was lost by Fitzpatrick, and about 9.30 p.m. -on the same day it was presented by a woman, name unknown, at Carter and Co.’s draper’s shop, George Street, in payment for a child’s brown-tweed suit, value 6s. 9d., she receiving the balance in cash. She is described as about thirty or thirtyfour years of age, medium height and build, rather thin face, pale complexion ; supposed wore a dark dress.

Stolen on the 17th instant, at the Opaki Racecourse, Mas ter ton, a silver lever hunting-watch, maker Rotherham, London, No. 62260; the property of Thomas Ruano; value £9 15s. Identifiable.

Stolen on the 19th instant, from Boulcott Street, Wellington, a perambulator with three wheels, front wheel made of wood and the other two of iron, no hood, wooden bottomland cane body, value 10s.; a rod table-cloth with grey flowers woven through it, and seven pieces calico, value 4s. 6d.; the property of Robert Needham. Perambulator and table-cloth identifiable.

Stolen on the morning of the 18th instant, from the garden of Botista Botta, Waikaia, Southland District, about 4001 b. of eating apples ; value £4.

Stolen on the 12th instant, at the Norwood Railwaystation, Christchurch District, a brown-paper parcel, about 2ft. long by Ift. thick, addressed “ Mrs. Mills, Passenger to Norwood,” containing a black guernsey, two pairs of men’s drawers, some calico, white flannel, and other drapery ; the property of Johanna Mills; value about £3 10s. Identifiable.

Stolen during the night of the 2nd instant, from a cart at Hurunui, an old double-breasted brown-cloth overcoat with check lining, lining in sleeves and near pockets patched, and a new drab-felt hat without lining, cord for band; the property of George William Jones; value £l. Identifiable.

• Stolen on the 19tli instant from a new building at the corner of Haining and Tory Streets, Wellington, a carpenters’ gauge, branded “T. Gibson;” the property of Thomas Wright Gibson; value Is. 6d. Identifiable.

Stolen on the 27th ultimo, at Lambton Quay, Wellington, during the recent fire, a plain electro-plated silver cruet-stand, 6in. by 6in. square, in which were four cut-glass bottles; and an electro-plated silver cruet-stand, sin. by 4iu. at sides, stands rather high, in which were four silver egg-cups, four silver spoons, and a glass butter-dish with silver lid ; the property of John Sellgreen ; value about £lO. Identifiable.

Stolen on the 21st instant, from a clothes-line in the yard of Barry’s boardinghouse, Upper Willis Street, Wellington, a Crimean shirt, grey-check pattern, and a white-flannel shirt, both slightly worn ; the property of George Packman ; value 12s. 6d.

Stealing a boat at Takapuna, the property of Edwin Harrow, and an anchor, &c., the property of Robert Shakespeare: William Shurman has been arrested for these offences by Constable A. J. Mitchell, Paeroa Police, and sentenced to two months’ labour for the former offence and one month’s labour for the latter. All the stolen property has been recovered.

Stolen on the 9th instant, at the Wanganui Racecourse, a new nickel-silver air-gun, about 2Jft. long ; the property of a Maori named Mattieu; value £3 10s. Identification doubtful.

Stolen on the 3rd instant, from the verandah of the residence of David Schofield, Fenton Street, Parawai, Thames, a double-barrel muzzle-loading gun, well worn, left hammer very loose, stock repaired with a plate of iron screwed on it, no ramrod ; value £2. Identifiable.

Stolen on the 23rd ultimo, at Wairangi, Auckland District, a double-cased gold Geneva watch, outside case discoloured, mainspring broken, maker’s name and number not known ; and a ladies’ long gold chain, round-link pattern, two of links broken, one of them tied with string; the property of Patrick O’Brien; value £6 10s. Identifiable. Suspicion attached to Charles Rew, about twenty-seven years of age, sft. 9in. high, dark complexion, short dark side whiskers and moustache, chin shaved, large Roman nose ; wore dark clothes and low hard black hat; good address. He had been employed at State-forest work with complainant at Wairangi, and left there on the 7th or Bth instant for Papakura or Auckland.

Stolen on tho 4th or stli instant, from on board the steamer “ Scotchman,” at Auckland, a keg containing 1401 b. treacle, and a case containing two sGlb.-tins treacle ; the property of Hugh Arthur Bishop ; value £2.

Stolen on the lOtli instant, from the cabin of the cutter “ Morning Light,” at Auckland, a rug, black on one side and black with red spots on the other side, value £1 10s.; and a blue-cloth coat with velvet collar, value 10s.; the property of J. Tiller. Identifiable.

Stolen on the 6th or 7th instant, from the stable of Messrs. Hellaby Brothers, Chancery Lane, Auckland, a nearly-new small bullock-liide saddle, a narrow patch on pommel and on back, one of knee-pads somewhat flattened, round stirrup-irons, and dirty web girth ; value £3. Identifiable.

Stolen on the 15th or 16th instant, at Rotorua, a new wheelbarrow, rimu frame and kakatea body, legs painted white from lower board to edge of top board; the property of Alfred C. Frctwell; value £1 ss. Identifiable.

Stolen about the 20th instant, from tho premises of Peter Keddie, Balclutha, a clothes-wringer for screwing on to a washing-machine, “ No. 5 wringer ”on top bar; value £2. Identifiable.
