At the Government House, at Wellington, this twenty-first day of December, 188 G. Present: His Excellency the Governor in Council.
IN pursuance of the powers and authorities vested in him by the twenty-eighth section of “The Rabbit Nuisance Act, 1882,” His Excellency the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council of the said colony, doth hereby declare that the cat (Felis doviestica) is a natural enemy of the
rabbit, and doth hereby prohibit the killing and capturing of 1 any such animal outside the boundaries of any city, borough, | or town district.

Licensing Districts defined _
(1.5.) Wm. F. DRUMMOND JERVOIS, Governor. A PROCLAMATION.
WHEREAS by the sixth section of “ The Licensing Act, 1881,” it is enacted that the Governor shall, as soon as conveniently may be after the commencement of the said Act, by Proclamation in the Gazette, from time to time define districts to be licensing districts under the said Act, and from time to time may alter and redefine the boundaries of the same: Now, therefore, I, William Francis Drummond Jervois, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, do hereby, in pursuance and exercise of the power and authority vested in me by the said Act, alter and redefine the boundaries of the Mauku Licensing District, which shall, from and after the first clay of February next, be those described in the First Schedule hereto ; do abolish the Licensing District of Karaka; and do proclaim and define the part of the colony mentioned and described in the Second Schedule hereto to be, from and after the said first day of February next, an ordinary licensing district for the purposes of the said Act.
FIRST SCHEDULE Manukau County.
Mauku Licensing District. —Comprises all that area known as the Mauku Road District, as described in the New Zealand Gazette of the 13th May, 1886.
SECOND SCHEDULE Manukau County.
Pulcekohe Licensing District. —Comprises all that area known as the Karaka Road District, as described in the New Zealand Gazette of the 18th May, 1883; and also the Pukekolie West Road District, as described in the New Zealand Gazette of the 13th May, 188 G. Given under the hand of His Excellency Sir William Francis Drummond Jervois, Lieutenant-General in Her Majesty’s Army, Knight Grand Cross of the Most Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and Saint George, Companion of the Most Honourable Order of the Bath, Governor and Commander-in-Chief in and over Her Majesty’s Colony of New Zealand and its Dependencies, and Vice-Admiral of the same; and issued under the Seal of the sail Colony, at Dunedin, this fifteenth day of January, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and eighty-seven. IN pursuance of the powers vested in me by “ The Animals Protection Act, 1880,” and “ The Animals Protection Act Amendment Act, 1881,” I, William Francis Drummond Jervois, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, do hereby declare that, from and after the date hereof, hares shall cease to bo within the operation of the said Act within that portion of the North Canterbury District which lies between the River Ashley and the River Waiau-ua.
