Incendiarism.
Between 3 and 4 o’clock on the morning of the 19th October last, at Onehunga, a saw-mill, with a quantity of machinery, was maliciously set on fire, by which it was destroyed. The owner, James S. Gibbons, estimates his loss by the fire at £I,OOO, but this valuation is considered to be excessive. The building and machinery were insured in the Union Office for £750. At an inquest held at Onehunga on the 22nd ultimo as to the origin of this fire, the jury found the following verdict: “ That the property was wilfully set on fire by some person unknown.” It is supposed that the fire was caused by the owner, James Saunders Gibbons, with a view to defraud the insurance company.
