William Peat, alias John Peat, charged on warrant with the larceny as a bailee of a promissory-note for £3O, the property of Allan Whitfield, has been arrested by Detective Maurice O’Connor, Christchurch Police, and remanded to Wellington, where he was discharged.

Stolen on the 28th ultimo, from the clothes-line of JosephThompson Henry, North Road, near Oamaru, two nearlynew damask table-cloths, about 6fb. by 10ft., passion-flower pattern, a small hole in corner of one, three twill sheets (two double and one single—a patch on comer of one), four plain calico pillow-slips, two bath-towels, four bedroom-towels, a cotton singlet about half-worn, and two chemises ; value £3. One table-cloth and one sheet identifiable.

Stolen on the 29th or 30th July last, from the clothes-line of John Terry, Alexandra South, two ladies’ calico nightdresses, two children’s calico nightdresses with a brown oval stain on breast of one, a large linen table-cloth, square pattern, a large turkish towel, a twill sheet, a large toiletcover, and a pillow-case ; value £2 6s. 6d. Nightdress with stain on breast identifiable.

Stolen on the 29th or 30th ultimo, on board the steamer “•Maori,” at Wanganui Wharf, a gold albert chain, pattern long links with three small links between each long link, with gold wire interwoven through it, known by jewellers as the Burnstein pattern, a half-sovereign and a small oval

Stolen between the 6th May last and the 30th ultimo, from a box on board the ship “Merope,” between Glasgow and Auckland, or on board the steamer “ Te Anau,” between Auckland and Dunedin, a silver ladle, two gravy-spoons, eleven silver table-spoons, nineteen silver table-forks, twelve silver dessert-spoons, ten silver dessert-forks, two silver salt-spoons, a mustard-spoon, and six silver toddy-ladles, all marked A ; a silver table-spoon, four silver dessert-spoons, four silver dessert-forks with initials thereon, but the initials are not known ; six plated salt-spoons, no initials ; and fifteen plated knives and forks with ivory handles ; the property of Mrs. Henrietta Allan ; value £7O. Cheeseman, Lower Remuera, near Auckland, an Englishmade hogskin saddle, nearly-new stirrup-leathers, holes numbered from one upwards, white-metal stirrup-irons open at bottom, two worsted-web girths ; and a nearly-new bridle with white-metal snaffle-bit, one of rings pulled into oval shape ; value £4.
