A man, name unknown, is charged with stealing, on the 13th ultimo, from a workshop off Tuam Street, Christchurch, a 2in. chisel with octagonal hickory handle, a l£in. chisel, a lin. chisel, a fin. chisel, a £in. chisel, and a lin. gouge with four small marks punched in blades, round handles; the property of Charles Mclntosh; value 10s. Identifiable. Description: About thirty years of age, carrotty whiskers, smart appearance; wore brown coat and brown hat. Supposed identifiable. He was seen stealing the tools and putting them in a bag.

Lightning-saw and maul identifiable. Identification of the other articles doubtful.

Supposed stolen on the 15th ultimo, at Invercargill, a light-brown-coloured lurcher slut, heavy with pup; has a mark over one of eyes caused by a kick from a horse; answers to the name “ Gip; ” the property of NeilFrederickson; value £5. Identifiable.

Identifiable by brands.

Stolen during the night of the 15th ultimo, from a clothes-line at Frasertown, Hawke’s Bay District, five linen table-cloths, 12ft. long, and five twill-sheets, double width, all marked CRT on one of corners; the property of Charles Ross Thatcher ; value £5 ss. Identifiable.

Stolen on the 24th ultimo, from the waiting-room at the railway-station, Masterton, a large water-bottle and a glass, the property of the Government; value 7s. 6d. Bottle identifiable.

Stolen on the 22nd ultimo, from the clothes-line of Thomas Small, Timaru, four linen pinafores, two of them with scarlet linen on front, three toilet-covers, four pillowcases, a calico night-dress, four pocket-handkerchiefs, a calico table-cloth, and a pair of ladies’ linen drawers ; value 13s. Identifiable.

Stolen on the 23rd or 24th ultimo, from a stable at Stirling, Lawrence District, a single-rein bridle with composition bit, supposed stamp “ J. Law, Maker, Clutha; ” the property of Thomas McDonald ; value £l. Identifiable. A horse and saddle stolen at the same time have been found at Hillend, about four miles from Stirling.

Stolen about the 24th ultimo, from a quarry in Maclaggan Street, Dunedin, two crowbars, one about 4£ft. long, the other about 3ft. long, steeled at both ends ; the property of Henry Brenchley; value ss. each. Identifiable.

The saddle stolen from the stable of Ah Fon, at Naseby, has been found in the possession of Peter McCarthy, arrested by Constable Hans Peter Rasmussen, Naseby Police, and sentenced to one month’s labour.

A letter posted at Nightcaps, on the sth March last, by Jane Johnston, addressed to the Manager of the Bank of Australasia, Invercargill, has not reached its destination,

and it is believed has been stolen. It contained a cheque for £ls, drawn by William Johnston, jun., on the National Bank, Invercargill, and a £5 note. Another letter posted by William Johnston, at Nightcaps, on the 25th April last, also addressed to the Manager of the Bank of Australasia, Invercargill, has not reached its destination, and it is also believed to have been stolen. It contained a cheque for £8 6s. 4d., drawn by the Wallace County Council; a cheque for £6, and a cheque for £1 155., both drawn by Rowley and Hamilton on a Dunedin Bank ; and sis £1 notes. Cheques identifiable.

Stolen during the night of the 30th ultimo, from the clothes-line of Alexander Clydesdale, Hull Street, Oamaru, two chemises with fancy embroidery on neck and sleeves, a white-flannel petticoat with scarlet wool worked round the bottom, and an infants’ white-flannel petticoat with fancy work in white woollen thread round the bottom; value 18s. Identification doubtful.

Stolen between the 23rd and 28th ultimo, from a shed at the railway-station, Paihi, near Orepuki, a 251 b. bag of coarse salt, and a mat of sugar containing about 601 b., a ticket attached to each with “ From Whittingham Bros, and Instone, Riverton, to Garden Bros., Paihi ” thereon; the property of Garden Brothers ; value £1 ss. Identifiable by tickets.

Stolen on the morning of the 25th ultimo, from off a hording in Sprey Street, Invercargill, a square lantern and a glass lamp-globe; the property of William Gray; value about 15s. Identifiable.

Stolen on the 12th May last, from off a clothes-line at Kaikoura, Marlborough District, a black-paramatta skirt trimmed with velvet; the property of Louisa Close; value £llos. Identifiable.
