Housebreaking, Stealing from the Person and from Dwellings.

The man charged on warrant with stealing a pair of boots from the Mataura Bridge Hotel, Mataura, the property of John Kay, has been arrested by Constable Janies Pratt, Wyndham Police, and sentenced to one month’s labour. His name is Uriah Warsaw. The stolen boots were found in his possession.

David James Skillan Lazarus is charged, on warrant issued by the Wellington Bench, with stealing, on the 27th ultimo, from the dwelling of his father, David Lazarus, South Road, Wellington, three £1 notes, five half-sovereigns, and £1 10s. in silver. Description; A native of Lyttelton, a mulatto, an apprentice-carpenter, fifteen years of age, about sft. 4in. high, medium build, straight black hair, scar on nose.

Between 10 p.m. on the 26th and 5 a.m. on the 27th ultimo the dwelling of George Reid, Barrack Hill, off Chaucer Road, Napier, -was broken into, and a silver hunting Geneva lever watch, No. 19040, maker’s name not known, stolen; value £3. Identifiable.

Stolen about the 21st ultimo, from the tent of James Dali, at Rotorua, a tomahawk with JD on end of handle and on blade, a loaf of bread, and 61b. of cheese ; value 10s. Tomahawk identifiable.

Stolen between the 20th February last and the 20th ultimo, from the dwelling of the Rev. Robert Burrows, Parnell, near Auckland, a very large double-cased gold huntingwatch, case worn quite smooth, maker’s name and number not known, value £10; and a ladies’ small open-face gold watch, maker’s name and number not known, value £2. Identifiable.

On the 2nd instant the dwelling of John Thomas Lepper, Donald McLean Street, Wellington, was broken into, and two £1 notes, a half-sovereign, and 3s. in silver stolen. Suspicion attached to Charles Nicholson, alias Seaton. (For his description, &c., see Police Gazette, 1886, page 66.)

Stolen on the 27th ultimo, from a dwelling in Ross Place, Lawrence, a ladies’ gold dress-ring, with one white and two red stones set in a square, the stones are visible on the inside of the ring ; the property of Margaret Julius; value £2 15s. Identifiable. Suspicion attached to Fanny Johnson, Scotch, a servant, about thirty years of age, medium height; wore light dress, black jacket, and brown hat. She left Lawrence on the 3rd instant by train for Dunedin.

On the 26th ultimo the dwelling of William Youug, Powell Town, Invercargill, was broken into, and a silver hunting Geneva watch, No. 47929, maker’s name not known, “ Dyar” stamped on inside of case, stolen; value £3. Identifiable.

Stolen on the Ist instant, from' the person of Louis Scharrar, at the racecourse, New Plymouth, a gold locket, nearly square, crescent corners, a raised horseshoe on front, LS engraved on back; there were photographs of two children in the locket; value £3. Identifiable.

Identifiable. Suspicion attached to Isabella Jane Elly, English, twenty-nine years of age, sft. 4in. high, medium build, fair complexion, brown hair and eyes. She left Nelson on the 31st ultimo by the steamer “ Wanaka ” for Wellington.

Stolen on the 10th instant, from the dwelling of Patrick O’Rourke, at Terawhiti, a purse containing a £5 note, five £1 notes, and between 10s. and 14s. in silver. Purse identifiable. Suspicion attached to James Lee, sft. Bin. high, slight build, light-brown whiskers and moustache. He went towards Makara, and spoke of going to Picton.

Stolen between the 23rd and 30th ultimo, from the shop of Thomas Kingsland, Dee Street, Invercargill, two £1 notes, a half-sovereign, and £1 13s. in silver.
